There's enough wisdom to be found in this engaging tale for a trip to the theatre. Whether to take the whole family is up to parents to decide. Go to Full Review

Merits comparison to works of similar relevance and poetic ambitions, like Shoplifters and Roma, masterworks that share its inquiries about familial ties, parental insecurities, and the inescapable pull of the past. Go to Full Review

The dazzling animation does lift up an endearing story about finding the core connectivity one must find in family, and witnessing that journey in such a unique way was quite enjoyable. Go to Full Review

A beautiful and perceptive anime from Mamoru Hosoda about family connections. Light on plot (though full of heart and memorable moments) Mirai is ripe for interpretation and has plenty to offer for children and adults alike. Go to Full Review

Hermione S Apr 19, 2019 This movie was absolutely amazing! I knew it was going to be good (bc of previous movies) but it totally blew my mind! Would totally watch it again and recommend it to everyone~! See more

Hermione S Apr 13, 2019 This was the last Oscar animated movie and in my opinion, orobably the best.movie. The story tells of a jealous brother after his sister is born. He is then transorted to discuss with his sister, not a teenager, to see the importance of family and the famiy's stories that made them all what they are today. See more
Luke W Apr 10, 2019 It's a wonderful premise and the last 30 mins. or so really deliver on the magic and feels that you'd expect from it, expertly using that emotional core revolving around family. Unfortunately, the rest of it (about an hour) that comes before is somewhat tedious and drags as it focuses mostly on the rather annoying brat of a child. The only interesting characters are those who get the smallest amount of screen time; the rest of them are pretty flatly written and not particularly likeable. Overall, it's nicely animated using a vibrant colour palette and there are some enchanting moments, but it's not nearly as good as I'd hoped. See more
Anakin W Mar 21, 2019 Mirai is the Japanese animated feature nominated for an Oscar last year and which I had high hopes would be in the same league as the Studio Ghibli outputs or last year's Your Name. Sadly, it isn't. As sweet and magical as it may come across, it lacks a coherent and compelling narrative even though the storytelling techniques and visual renderings are as good as expected. A young boy, Kun, is the centre of attention of his young parents' lives but that's upended by the arrival of his new-born sister and the film charts the struggles this young family has to deal with. Helping Kun understand and come to terms with the new change is a magical garden that allows timelines to criss-cross but this timeline changing narrative never really takes off for me and just feels episodic, contrived, if not a tad forced. A less than magical film that sadly suffers from expectations generated by his predecessors. See more
Abraham S Mar 3, 2019 Mirai, even with its magical side without much sense, its animation, characters and script deserve prominence. The film is light, making good connections, even shallow in a few moments, making us happy all the time. Extremely fluffy in all 98 minutes. 8,8/10 See more
