What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though possibly more notable for its distinctive style than an airtight story, this Coen brothers take on the classic gangster flick features sharp dialogue, impressive cinematography, and a typically quirky cast of characters.

The violence, like the rest of Miller's Crossing, is poetically staged, and strangely tasteful. But the movie's real firepower is the staccato slang of its script. Go to Full Review

Harry R Apr 12, 2019 Very underrated crime drama with a wonderful cast including the late, great Albert Finney - story-wise, it's nothing that original but the crackling dialogue really pops! See more
Rey S Apr 3, 2019 Millers crossing is a Coen brothers film directed by Joel Coen and Produced by Ethan Coen two of my personal favourite directors/producers as of right now. The film stars Gabriel Byrne as Tom Reagan and Albert Finney as Leo O Bannon. The actors in the film I personally think fit the characters really well. The acting is also really strong especially John Turturro as Bernie Bernbaum I felt that he gave a really good performance of a scared but twisted bookie. The characters are written really well and are also really enjoyable to watch. The characters are also very memorable including the ones that only appear for a couple scenes. The cinematography is strong with some great shots from start to finish. The cinematography also fits with the colour scheme of the film whether it be a slow scene of a fast paced scene. I personally very much like the mob setting from the bleak tone to the way the characters all interact. The set design and props are very good and fit with the film near perfectly. The costume design in my opinion is so close to being perfect, but sadly there was one scene where one of the extras was wearing something that didnt fit with the other characters. The style of the film is strong with its colour scheme to its pacing. The practical effects are done really well from the shooting of guns to the way the blood is done. The action in the film is directed and pulled off extremely well. One scene in particular was a scene where they play the song Danny boy. The dialogue in the film is very sound and quotable like the line What heart? The editing is steady with some cool edits now and again. The music in the film was by Carter Burwell. The music I personally really like and I also think that it fits really Well with the film. The story was very good and enjoyable to watch fold out. What made the story even better was the characters and acting. The film does also have some comedy which I found quiet funny especially one scene in which Tom is left alone in a room with someone els from an apposing mob. The film also has some very good atmosphere at points especially toward the end. The film in my opinion is really enjoyable and one that I will be watching again. The film does have a couple things wrong with it luckily it doesnt take away away that much. Over all I give it a 9/10 - so close See more
George S Feb 22, 2019 A great story of shifty people doing despicable things and nobody wins in the end...except the audience. Now take it on the toe and heel, before you get a knuckle scraped on your face. See more
