In this hilarious backstage mockumentary, three eclectic, never-quite-famous folk bands come together for the first time in decades following the death of their manager to put on a reunion concert in his honor, at the request of his son (Bob Balaban). For the members of The Folksmen, The New Main Street Singers, and Mitch & Mickey, time has not been kind. As the show approaches, apprehension sets in, romances are rekindled and ambitions are permanently deferred.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though not as uproariously funny as Guest's previous movies, A Mighty Wind is also more heartfelt.

There is no shortage of performers with comic skills in A Mighty Wind. What's lacking instead is a visible premise for the satire and ridicule. Go to Full Review

You don't leave A Mighty Wind laughing so much as humming. Its dialogue may be improvised, but its music is well rehearsed. Go to Full Review

Aside from Miss Lynch, there are two very sweet performances, by Levy and O'Hara as Mitch and Mickey. Go to Full Review

One breathtaking moment of clarity between Eugene Levy's Mitch and Catherine O'Hara's Mickey gives way to an anticipated kiss during which you can practically sense the characters' hearts thumping and their fictional contemporaries rooting for them. Go to Full Review

Luke G Nov 18, 2018 The impression we have here is that Guest is less interested in making fun of people and their curious idiosyncrasies with his usual satirical bite, making a film that is sweeter and more heartfelt than Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show but also a bit less funny, too. Leia G Apr 16, 2018 one of the more heartfelt mockumentaries of the music industry in the tradition of 'Spinal Tap' and 'Pop Star' a collection of great actors playing fake country singers taking their love and passion of music seriously but also with great care I just didn't get a lot out of the whole thing to be honest there is a lot of talking interviews, a few laughs if not many and some nicely performed songs I expected it to be a tad better and more hard-hitting See more
Leia S Jul 16, 2017 Some good stuff here.
Poe M Mar 8, 2017 It's so funny that you almost forget that it's also brilliant.
