Gordon has experience on the ice, but isn't eager to return to hockey, a point hit home by his tense dealings with his own former coach, Jack Reilly (Lane Smith). The Mighty Ducks has feel-good goals but only scores a penalty shot for predictability.

Duane Byrge The Hollywood Reporter Oct 2, 2017
While nicely layered with tough, conflicting personal questions, Ducks ultimately flaps off into easy outcomes and pat contrivances. Still it's an overall charmer, and director Stephen Herek keeps it flying with a nifty mix of slapstick and action. Go to Full Review

Very lame ice-hockey flick. Go to Full Review
Janet Maslin New York Times May 20, 2003
The film is remarkably oblivious to the fact that if the team weren't hell-bent on a championship, young moviegoers would be significantly less interested in its adventures. Go to Full Review

It’s practically the stuff of resistance these days for a film’s hero to learn wisdom from children about the purity and beauty of honor, and play, and radical acceptance despite winning or losing. Go to Full Review

You can learn a little about hockey and a lot about life from The Mighty Ducks. The formula is tired but the movie's fresh and entertaining. Go to Full Review

There are some parts that feel very 90s family entertainment but I don't really mind that because it's executed so well Go to Full Review

Theodore L Mar 11, 2019 Strengths: This is the definition of a feel good story. The idea of a ragtag group coming together to find success in sports is tried and true. The kids are mostly likable, our protagonist learns a lesson, and the script gives them plenty of time to have fun along the way. Emilio Estevez (Gordon Bombay) does well as the coach, while Joshua Jackson (Charlie Conway), Shaun Weiss (Greg Goldberg), and Elden Henson (Fulton Reed) get the highlights among kid actors. There are funny moments throughout that still make me laugh over two decades later. Timeless comedy can be hard to pull off. Thereâ(TM)s a lot of heart to the story and itâ(TM)s easy to become emotionally invested in it all. Weaknesses: Itâ(TM)s not anything original. The movie hits the expected beats of almost any other underdog sports story. The romantic storyline between Estevez and Heidi King (Casey Conway) doesnâ(TM)t work for me. It drags the movie down at points and really doesnâ(TM)t need to be there. Gordon as a father figure for Charlie is enough, the romance with the mom is too much. Also, most of the unimportant members of the team feel more like stereotypes than actual people. Overall: How can you not love this movie? Itâ(TM)s everything you want in a family sports film from this era. Thereâ(TM)s a reason this is a cult classic. See more
Feb 1, 2019 The best inspiring sports movie ever made!
Rey R Jan 28, 2019 The Mighty Ducks is a perfectly enjoyable film highlighting the behaviorally corrective power of teamwork and friendship united through a youth sports story. Multiple characters discover their own value by playing for a team, while others find their life problems solved by putting the team (and more outright, putting others) before themselves. There are one or two facepalm moments steeped in typical, melodramatic misunderstandings that move the plot. But, all in all, the film does a good job at portraying the humor and fun of being a 90s kid. See more
Finn L Jan 16, 2019 Imagine living in a world where the mistakes you made in pee wee hockey haunt you even in adulthood. That's the reality that Gordon Bombay lives in every single day. This Disney Classic is one of my all time favorites, granted watching it now as I'm older really makes you realize how ridiculous the story is and how the characters in the tale make everything a bigger deal than it needs to be. Can you imagine a lawyer losing his job because he refuses to withdraw a complaint to the pee wee hockey league! The movie does have a great story, no matter how ridiculous it might seem. I think it's a definite must-watch for any young athlete. See more
