What to Know

Critics Consensus

Adding dashes of horror to a noir premise, Midnighters is a genre-bending chiller that delights as often as it scares.

This is a thrilling noir that takes no prisoners and pulls no punches. Go to Full Review

A low-budget film noir that benefits greatly from its tautness and lack of pretension. Go to Full Review

Midnighters leaves you with the taste of something more complex - truly, there's quite a lot happening - but it all folds together with such homogenized doughiness. Go to Full Review

A stilted, cringe-inducing script dooms a promising if relatively well-worn premise in a caper that telegraphs its twists from a mile away. Go to Full Review

Harry S Apr 7, 2019 This was an ok/watchable thriller (it's not a horror). It follows too many genre conventions to be special or surprising. It's about a young couple and the wife's sister who make increasingly bad decisions, leading to more and more peril. It's a bit easy to figure out where this heading, but there a plot twist that's unexpected. The acting is ok, nothing great or special, even including Alex Essoe from Starry Eyes fame. If you're bored and looking for something to pass the time this may work for you. But other than that I wouldn't really recommend it. See more
Harry R Nov 24, 2018 Maybe as a cult movie like The Room
Theodore S Oct 29, 2018 What starts out as an intriguing thriller with an interesting premise unfortunately heads downhill halfway through. Midnighters wastes a decent story and talented actors on a lackluster, low budget movie. See more
Han R Aug 26, 2018 Noir is a tough genre and I think it has been relegated to the lower budget market for quite some time now. In a world where your average multiplex movie costs over 100 million, a film like this struggles for existence. The film begins well and like every great Hitchcock film homage, it only gets complicated the further the film goes. If I had a gripe about the film, the performances a little uneven and the husbands arc wasn't overly convincing. The Ramsay team look to have bright future and you can see the Tv filmmaking shining through, not a bad thing in this modern era. They make the film work when it could have fallen to the side and failed miserably. There are quite a few tough scenes to watch here but the overall story works well and if you're a fan of the genre, you will find something here. 26/08/2018. See more
Harry S Apr 17, 2018 Decent low budget thriller in the Blood Simple / Shallow Grave tradition. Fun, but not as good as either of those films.
Poe G Mar 30, 2018 A garbage salad tossed with choppy dialogue, bad acting, and rotten editing. Is Alex Essoe the worst fake cryer in the industry? Yes. "Plays like 'Blood Simple's' impressionable but less proficient kid brother?" No. In fact, how dare the LA Times even associate these guys with the Cohen Bros. And Roger Ebert is probably rolling over in his grave right now knowing that some lackey who still earns a living off of his good name gave this abomination of a film a 3/4. The fact that this third-rate, b-movie piece of trash has managed to garner so many favorable reviews is beyond comprehension. I suspect Russian meddling. See more
