Sylvia (Jessica Chastain) is a social worker who leads a simple and structured life: her daughter, her job, her AA meetings. This is blown open when Saul (Peter Sarsgaard) follows her home from their high school reunion. Their surprise encounter will profoundly impact both of them as they open the door to the past.

Critics Consensus

A searingly powerful union of filmmaker and cast, Memory finds writer/director Michel Franco exploring complex, mature themes brought brilliantly to life by stars Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard.

It’s a tale filled with regrets and recriminations, but writer-direct Michel Franco cleverly only gradually reveals all the details, keeping the viewer guessing as to where our sympathies should lie.
