Maytime (1937) is a beautiful, enchanting classic romantic musical from the 1930s. It is the third Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy operetta and often considered the best of their eight pairings. Go to Full Review

Feb 1, 2019 The best musical movie ever made!
Rey P Aug 10, 2018 *Spoiler Warning* I initially thought this was pretty good, but the more I thought about it, the more problematic it felt. While I can appreciate that the movie made it feel like Marcia only started a second romance because Paul persistently coaxed her into it when they first met, a lot of the conflict in the movie would've been resolved if she had simply told him she was already engaged. Besides, she had many opportunities to do this while she was with him. Also, my issue with the final act was that Nicolai didn't seem like he was unstable enough to murder someone. Even during the couple moments where he did seem suspicious during the first couple acts, he didn't get hostile towards Marcia. Him suddenly turning into a murderer seemed to come out of nowhere. Finally, the final scene felt random and designed as a crowd pleaser. It also felt a bit pointless as the scene which came before it would've made for a fine ending. I can't say I disliked this movie though, because MacDonald and Eddy had good chemistry onscreen. Also, John Barrymore did really good in his role. Finally, the music was also really good. However, I was pretty mixed on this, and I can't see myself recommending this to anyone. See more
