Sexy and grand, Tedeschi shines in the Cuckoo's Nest comedy of the early scenes, though the movie's anarchic spirit is sapped by the steadily mounting melodrama.

Tedeschi combines the raw sensuality of an Anna Magnani with the melancholic introspection of a Monica Vitti and is well worth discovering.

As a dual character study of the film's problematic protagonists, director Paolo Virzi makes sure to not sway you into liking the pair or not, but simply lays out the information and lets the audience decide themselves. And for a majority of the run time, it pays off, detouring only at the very end. If you want to see Italy, albeit through the eyes of two women with severe depression, this movie takes you through the best and worst the country has to offer.
