What to Know

Critics Consensus

Brazenly strange and uneven in its execution, Lifeforce is an otherworldly sci-fi excursion punctuated with off-kilter horror flourishes.

Frequently outlandish and far from profound, it's nonetheless a box-office bomb that, like its horror-maestro director, deserved quite a bit better. Go to Full Review

The mere mention of its title will trigger memories among many people of A) a gorgeous space vampire prone to walking around London completely nude, B) a pre-Star Trek: The Next Generation Patrick Stewart getting possessed by said beauty, or C) both. Go to Full Review

There's a version of this that has a more cohesive vision of what it wants to be, though the actual theatrical release ends up a confusing mess that never knows what it wants to be. Go to Full Review

Hermione G Apr 6, 2019 A deeply silly film which despite it's many unintentional comedic moments, has not improved with age.
Rey R Apr 6, 2019 One of my favorite movies. Saw it at the cinema 4 times back in 1985 when I was 10 years old. Space shuttles, skeletons, amazing visual effects. What more could a boy ask for. See more
Draco R Nov 27, 2018 Plain awesome, yet criminally underrated, epic hybrid of sci-fi, fantasy, horror and disaster. Uneven (and sometimes unintentionally humorous) at times, but the audacity of the concept and production (a revisionist vampire story told with the elements of Hammer, Quatermass, George A. Romero, sexploitation grindhouse flick, and Irwin Allen incorporated for more than just good measure), along with the integrity of the sadly late Tobe Hooper as director, complete with the assured cinematography of Alan Hume, still-impressive practical effects work of John Dykstra and memorable music of Henry Mancini, makes this colorful, intense and action-packed gem of a space-horror cult flick a serious case of worthwhile repeated viewing. Hagrid S Sep 11, 2018 The promise of 1980s, practical effects, and energy vampires with no clothes on is apparently all it takes to get me to watch a movie. See more
Sep 5, 2018 For a low budget Sci-Fi, it has stuck to me for all these years. Great movie,!!
Luke W Mar 10, 2018 Under the helm of legendary unnatural hitters Tobe Hooper and Dan O'Bannon, the mid-budget sci-fi horror movie gives us awesome in every sense of life. It's got space vampires, cheesy 80's special effects, and the over-dramatic acting that comes from it. The result is spectacular: Cannon placed faith in Hooper, giving him full ability to go batshit insane. And you can't help but get lost. See more
