"Lake Bodom" is not so much a slasher film as a meta-slasher film, toying knowingly with genre conventions and touchstones. Go to Full Review

Lake Bodom is apt to cause whiplash with its various plot developments, some more predictable than others, however, these switch-ups do more than keep viewers on their toes — they give the film an edge over its contemporaries. Go to Full Review

A super-stylish slasher whose convoluted plot and tenuous connection to actual events hold it back from greatness. Go to Full Review

Lake Bodom is a film filled with murder, betrayal, obsession, and deception. The many different aspects of the film add a lot of intrigue, but it also makes the film seem convoluted at times. Go to Full Review

See more
Rey S Oct 20, 2017 PROS: The less you know about the film, the better, but I will say the directing and cinematography is fantastic. The birds eye view and underwater shots are almost too good for a horror film. CONS: It takes a while for things to get going and I was a little confused at times. See more
Hagrid P Sep 3, 2017 No idea why this gets such high ratings. It has some (slightly) original twist but counters this with some very annoying clichés. Luckily Mikael Gabriel was cute to watch. See more
Luke R Jun 23, 2017 While not always more than a step ahead of the viewer, it does offer some scares and a surprise or two. It's a nice take on a familiar tale. See more
Poe W Apr 8, 2017 Proper Perspective: This is a Finish film, so subtitles and reading and a take on the slasher genre focusing on a group of teems that all have a secret more or less. Sort of like a Wolf Creek meets Valentine or something like that. Let's talk about Lake Bodom... Official Synopsis: Every camper's worst nightmare came true at Lake Bodom in 1960 when four teenagers were stabbed to death while sleeping in their tent. Plot: Almost 50 years after the brutal murders of four teenagers at Lake Bodom, another quartet of campers go to the lake to recreate the scene and try to solve the mystery. Take: Right out of the gate this is a great looking film. Very, very well shot and directed by Finnish filmmaker Taneli Mustonen. He has an eye for shooting in an enclosed space and getting great angles on the scene his actors are in. The internal shots in the car, in the tent, and one later in the movie I won't spoil were the highlights of the movie. Well, for me they were. Overall the story might be seen as a little bloated and the exposition and dialog might pull most people out of the movie, but the acting and shooting are good enough to keep Lake Bodom above water. The movie clocked in at 85 minutes and probably could have been either 15 minutes shorter or 15 minutes longer and been just that much better. The idea premise was thin, but the meat of the movie was condensed. I am not sure if that makes any sense to anyone other than me, but that is what I am going with. I was able to catch this at the Phoenix Film Festival/International Horror and Sci-Fi Film Festival as my first movie there. Good overall start. Recommendation: If you are a fan of foreign language films, slasher flicks, or are a nerd like me for directors that have a great eye for shooting check out Lake Bodom. Should be on VOD soon... Sometimes, the guys with the neck tattoos are more than meets the eye. Just saying. See more
