This Disney animated classic follows a pampered cocker spaniel named Lady whose comfortable life slips away once her owners have a baby. When, after some tense circumstances, Lady finds herself on the loose and out on the street, she is befriended and protected by the tough stray mutt Tramp. A romance begins to blossom between the two dogs, but their many differences, along with more drama at Lady's household, threaten to keep them apart.

Critics Consensus

A nostalgic charmer, Lady and the Tramp's token sweetness is mighty but the songs and richly colored animation are technically superb and make for a memorable experience.

Abraham R Mar 31, 2019 4/1/2019 It was by scrolling through possible animated films to see that I realized I haven't seen this at all so I decided to finally view it. I only know of the spaghetti eating slash kissing scene and the reference to the Siamese cats but nothing else of it coz I haven't gotten around reading anything. One thing I braced for was the possibility of sexist reference from that era that we would find offensive now, which I thankfully did not get much but was there. Storytelling wise, I would have to consider the era too as it is not as solid as what we would expect from animated movies now. The climax was a bit too convenient and the ending already had hints of what it will be. Then again, I'm quite good at getting the subtle hints. See more
Hermione Feb 15, 2019 There are some plot elements to Lady and the Tramp that do bother me a bit. For example, the siamese cat sequence. I hate those plot elements where a character or two frame another character and that one character gets the blame. The fact that the siamese are not seen for the rest of the film does annoy me. I do like the subtle moral in that sometimes you are not going to be able to get revenge on people that get you into trouble, but they do come across as just kind of pointless to the film as a whole. The moment after that being that Lady gets muzzled and runs away also did bother me, I did feel that sequence was a bit too rushed and a little too tense fo the main character. At the end, when Trusty is badly injured, they originally had it so that Trusty would die. Honestly, I would have preferred that due to the bad transition from Jock howling in sorrow to the sappy Christmas music right after. The cliche of a character getting blamed for something but cannot explain due to being a different animal is also used again when Tramp gets sent to the pound by Aunt Sarah. That annoyed me just as much as when the cliche was used earlier. These plot elements do kind of bring the film down for me, but the thing is, I can easily glance over them because the strong elements in the film are incredibly strong. The drawings on the dogs are very well done, and I appreciate the fact that they are all different species thus giving a lot more material and creativity to work with. The songs range from great to wonderful. The Siamese Cat song has a very good beat and jingle to it, and I love the He's a Tramp song. Peggy Lee, God bless you, these are very good songs. The best song to me of the film is Bella Notte, the setting of the song compliments the atmosphere and tone of the song very well. The vocal performance by the chorus and the voice actor of Tony is beautiful. And, boy, I must say that the spaghetti bit where they accidentally kiss while eating it has really become the film's icon, hasn't it? I always really liked the characters of Trusty and Boris, I always wanted to learn more about them or even have them as pets. The opening of the, especially when you know the backstory of it, is really bittersweet and charming to watch. Where she howls and finally gets to sleep with Jim Dear and Darling is a scene I never forgot. I really admired how they drew the rat near the end. It's an example of how you can draw a rat very well without showing all of the detail on it. The colors of the film are very pleasing to look at, it really sets that DIsney 50s style animation. I was always bothered by how Disney drew their siamese cats, the stereotypes do make me a feel a little dirty though I don't think it's racist. The scene I may like the best in the film is where Lady is talking with Jock and Trusty. While it's not an intense or emotional scene, it's just nice to watch the dogs talk to each other due to how charming it is. While there are plot elements and cliches that bother me and some of the stereotypes are little too obvious, the simplicity to the story itself and the strong elements I mentioned really make it a great, serviceable film. 3.5/4 See more
Feb 1, 2019 The best animated musical romance movie ever made! With the best movie song ever sung: He's a Tramp!
Hermione R Nov 2, 2018 The best movie that I have watched in months! At home or in the theater.
Oct 8, 2018 Overall I really love this movie. For a movie coming out in the 1950s this movie has amazing animation. The animation looks way better than the animation these days. It's a very lovable classic with very funny lovable characters. It's definitely one of the most underrated Disney movies ever made. The songs are very catchy and fun. And the scene where lady sees the baby for the first time is extremely adorable. Definitely one of Disney's best movies. Also I cannot wait for the live action that will be coming out in 2019 . I would recommend you to watch this movie it never gets old and is a timeless classic. See more
See more
