Critics Consensus

While nostalgic fans may view it through rose-Krullered glasses, this would-be sci-fi epic is painfully derivative.

Strong on stunts and special effects but often rambling and ponderously lurching into comedy, it's not the greatest of Christmas treats, but does have enough cherishable moments between the wordy longueurs... Go to Full Review

Mr. Sherman... incorporates some wit and intelligence into the proceedings. And Mr. Yates works hard to bring understatement and dimension to the material. His ''Krull,'' which is decorous and dignified throughout, has more depth than excitement. Go to Full Review

The result was an enthralling experience that many Kiwi kids at the time preferred to the Ewok-infested, New Hope re-run that was Return of the Jedi... However, 40 years on and Peter Yates’ “intimate epic’ has not aged well. Go to Full Review

Albus R Mar 15, 2019 Is it cheesy? Yes. But for someone who grew up with it, it will also be an epic fantasy classic.
Han S Feb 24, 2019 Best Movie Ever Made!
Theodore W Dec 9, 2018 The strange thing about some films is that they get better with time, this is a classic sci fi, fantasy adventure that is not only entertaining but well acted, scripted and cast. Wonderful special effects and a joy to watch. Ignore the ratings and check it out. See more
Hagrid R Nov 26, 2018 Absolutely horrible film. This has to be one of the most expensive, badly made films in existence. And, it's not the actors fault. I blame the producers for not getting a finished script before beginning pre-production ... for getting a director who couldn't care less about fantasy or sci-fi and who just wanted to try something different for a change ... yeah. Just a terrible mish-mash of crap. See more
Leia S Aug 25, 2018 Krull has impressive sets, an impressive soundtrack and impressive visual effects, so why isn't the movie more impressive? I guess it's because the story is overly complicated, while the characters are one-dimensional and mostly forgettable. Even the Glaive, exciting at first glance, ends up being underwhelming in the end. Rifftrax made this film hilarious, but I don't think I'd enjoy Krull as much on its own. See more
Abraham G Jun 26, 2018 A fun film, that mixed elements of scifi and fantasy. The special effects have not held up all that well but the story works.
