Still in grief over his wife's sudden death, village blacksmith Balian joins his long-estranged father, Baron Godfrey, as a crusader on the road to Jerusalem. What to Know

Critics Consensus

Although it's an objective and handsomely presented take on the Crusades, Kingdom of Heaven lacks depth.

The miscasting of the lightweight Bloom proves fatal: instead of galvanizing this epic, he sucks the energy out of it. Go to Full Review

Scott has certainly uncovered a fascinating era, but not necessarily the right hero to do it justice. Go to Full Review

Ridley Scott's gorgeous visuals and thrilling battle sequences aren't enough to make up for Kingdom of Heaven's dull characters and meandering plot. Go to Full Review

Deeper than anything found in Gladiator, I’ve long held this as one of director Ridley Scott’s top 3 features. Time has only been kind to the superior version of this Crusades epic, as the director’s cut has always garnered plenty of favor. Go to Full Review

Director’s cut holds as one of Scott’s best. Balanced approach to this tense historical event, portraying Muslims as three-dimensional and not Hollywood’s classic route of stereotypes. Overall, well-acted, well-directed, with scale and drama throughout. Go to Full Review

Hagrid L Apr 19, 2019 directors cut is exceptional
Finn L Feb 25, 2019 A great film about the Crusades! The film is not historically accurate, however the costumes, sets, and cinematography make this film worth watching! Ridley Scott takes you on journey thru the Holy Land meeting lots of good characters along the way. The cast is very good as well, Orlando bloom does a good job as the lead. The Directors Cut is the better version of this film, a little lengthy but alot better then the theatrical release which is a little botched. In the end I have enjoyed this film and watched it multiple times. See more
Albus G Feb 19, 2019 Director's scenario is totally different and you can see that Ridley Scott was forced to reduce the film by destroying it. Watch this film in long version of the director, it is the best on the subject of crusades. See more
Rey L Feb 10, 2019 Really?? Totally inaccurate and anti Christian Liberal left propaganda movie.
Luke R Jan 28, 2019 Wow this movie attracted a lot of hate. In truth, it's too long and while he didn't do a bad job, Orlando Bloom lacks the presence to make this movie what it could have been. It is also hampered by a dull script. However, the biggest problem with this movie is the main character. Blooms character has no real growth; he's basically perfect in every way, with a character arch that is no different than Rays in the Star Wars sequels See more
See more
