Critics Consensus

Kick-Ass 2 falls short in its attempt to emulate the original's unique blend of ultra-violence and ironic humor.

B-

While the character development and underlying premise of this installment are far more eloquently stated than they were in the first film, Kick-Ass 2, like its characters, suffers at times from a dual identity.

Chloe Grace Moretz and the character of Hit Girl are so infinitely more entertaining than the film around them, you can't help but wonder why it's not just a movie about her.

Although the film has the cheap veneer of female empowerment that comes from having a girl assassin, it is rotten with misogyny.

Perhaps a little over-dramatic at times but this movie is silly and goofy and the score reflects that, yet it gives you this sense of an awesome comic-book epic...

Squanders all the potential of the franchise to deliver an overly indulgent and abrasive experience that aimed to be controversial but ends up being embarrassing.

Fleetingly enjoyable scenes suffer for the overall lack of cohesion. The film would have benefitted from some focus.

Kick-Ass 2 is an entertaining watch with its share of laughs and crazy action sequences but it just does not hold a candle to the original. Too many new characters, a weaker script and a lame villain are the major problems. Chloë Grace Moretz as Hit-Girl still shines and is among the coolest superhero out there.

One of the most horrendously messy and dissapointing sequels to a film I've ever seen, Kick Ass 2 needs to be avoided.

Horrible movie, which is a shame because I really loved the first. The plot makes absolutely no sense. The "villain" is so pathetic and ineffectual that I just feel sorry for him. The "heroes" go around dismembering petty criminals and are so brutal they're hard not to hate. And it ends with two factions of comic book geeks in cosplay fighting to the death for little to no reason.

Had some filler it felt but overall a decent film. Loved the bad-guy still.
