He uses that gift to globe-trot, living on money he steals by "jumping" into bank vaults. He's captured by the evil Roland Cox (Samuel L. Jackson), who knows how to keep David from jumping. David escapes and reunites with his high school crush, Millie (Rachel Bilson), then forms an alliance with fellow jumper Griffin (Jamie Bell) and prepares for mortal combat with Cox.

Critics Consensus

Featuring uninvolving characters and loose narrative, Jumper is an erratic action pic with little coherence and lackluster special effects.

An elegantly idiotic sci-fi thriller that initially feels as though it might have derived from Philip K Dick -- but lacks the master's lysergic idiosyncracy. Go to Full Review

Apr 18, 2019 I remembered this old movie just now. Seeing the critics rating, clearly the critics section of this site should be disolved. Thise are just idiots paid by companies ... corrupted whores. It was an action packed solid sci fi movie with a lot of logic and characters were quite solid built and acting based on their construct. Anakin M Jan 29, 2019 If I had to describe this movie in one word, it would definitely have to be "Convuluted".
Finn M Jan 19, 2019 Want the ability to teleport? well....watch this when you want to kill time
Dec 17, 2018 Man this David rice was the worst character Iï¿ 1/2(TM)ve ever seen in a movie.
Draco R Oct 14, 2018 Horrible movie. It's just another bad Hayden Christensen movie. Almost all of his movies are bad. The plot is all over the place. The characters are poorly written. The protagonist, David Rice, is an unlikable douchebag who abuses his superpowers and uses his teleportation powers to teleport himself to bank vaults to steal a lot of money and spend them for stuff that he wants but doesn't need and constantly lies to his girlfriend, Millie. Millie is just a plot device character, just a damsel in distress used to further the plot. Rachel Bilson and her talents were sadly wasted in that role. Griffin who is another Jumper (what they call people in this film who have teleportation powers) is sort of the sidekick to David, but he is far more interesting, charismatic, and a much better acted character than David. Griffin is the only interesting character in this whole movie. Jamie Bell does an amazing job playing him. Roland is the antagonist. He is a Paladin (is what they call people who hunt Jumpers and are part of an organization of people who hunt down and kill Jumpers). Samuel L. Jackson plays Roland, but his white wig looks pretty dumb. Samuel L. Jackson's performance is pretty good, but his character isn't well written. Why is there an organization of hunters who murder people who have the ability to teleport? The movie is a big mess. It has so much potential, but it failed horribly. The concept is good, but the execution is horrible. Rating: 1.8/10 See more
Leia S Aug 28, 2018 My God, was potential wasted in this movie. The premise is cool-sounding, some of the action is fun and Jamie Bell steals the show as Griffin making you wish he was the main character. Even the tie-in novel and game wish he was the main protagonist. But no, we're stuck with an unlikable protagonist. According to Doug Liman, this actually was his intention since he wanted David to develop throughout more than one movie. Seems like it didn't work and in the eyes of most people whatever chances for redemption Hayden Christensen had after the Star Wars prequels were gone. Shame too because in Revenge of the Sith, he can act decently when he's not talking. How unlikable is David Rice? Robbing banks is one thing but sees news of a flood occurring somewhere in the world. Changes the channel instead of, you know, doing some good for a change. Makes you wonder if the Paladins' Jump-ism is not entirely unjustified. Effects aren't that good and the editing makes it hard to comprehend what's going on half the time and who's fighting who. Oh, and Samuel L. Jackson's character's haircut looks stupid. Seeing how this was from the director of The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow. I have to ask. What happened here, Mr. Liman? See more
