The genre pieces are set up so clearly in Josie that they border on parody. Go to Full Review

Complicating Sophie Turner's character would have allowed the film to feel as if it had more on its mind than pulling the rug out from under us. Go to Full Review

Spends so much time trying to resemble a film noir that its refusal to engage in actual film noir business proves downright exasperating, a situation compounded by the eventual revelations it has in store. Go to Full Review

A modern day noir, Josie is a film which only registers because of the performances from leads Sophie Turner and Dylan Mc Dermott. Go to Full Review

Josie takes its Texas time meandering through the three-act structure that we've come to expect and the effect is actually an interesting thing to see happen in retrospect. Go to Full Review

Theodore P Jan 19, 2019 Kinda weird to go for paedophile as your choice for sympathetic lead, but you know, takes all sorts I guess. Final rating:â~...â~... 1/2 - Had a lot that appealed to me, didnâ(TM)t quite work as a whole. See more
Abraham P Nov 5, 2018 A lonely man with regrets, a punk teenaged boy with no regard for rules, and a girl who comes from nowhere who attracts them both with one glance. While this is supposed to be a "love triangle", the most done is vandalizing a car (and small boat) with spray paint and retaliation by slashed tire. The moment the man and the teen girl meet, you know the climax will be tying their pasts in some way. The plot is agonizingly slow and flat, no character depth, and the climax is as unexciting as the rest of the movie. See more
Hermione W Oct 5, 2018 Very slow but rewarding.Worth watching.
Theodore R Aug 9, 2018 This is a creepy film with good acting and good direction. The plot is a little muddy but the actors do their best with a weak script. Good imagery and camera work. I enjoyed it alone with some whiskey. See more
Leia M Jul 22, 2018 Strengths: She's great in Game of Thrones, and Sophie Turner (Josie) is strong as the titular character here. She pulls off the southern accent rather well and plays up the mystique of her character without going overboard. Dylan McDermott (Hank) was also good. The chemistry between the two was evident, yet also managed to be the right amount of creepy for the roles. The big reveal surrounding Josie late in the film comes off very well. While it's not the most surprising twist, the scene where it goes down is interesting due to the character work done earlier in the film. Weaknesses: Straight up, this is a boring movie. The twist doesn't come until the end, which is usually the best time for it, but that means that things don't get very interesting until the end. We sit through 75 or so minutes of mediocre dialogue and scenes where a lot of nothing seems to happen. You also can't really get invested in the relationship between Josie and Hank, because it's so wrong given their ages. I didn't feel for him when he heard Josie hooking up with a guy her age, because that's what she's supposed to do. Overall: With the strong acting of Turner and McDermott, you'd expect this to be a better film. However, the main plotline is uncomfortable and not in the way that make a movie interesting. The final few minutes are great, but everything before that is kind of a drag. See more
Anakin G Jul 16, 2018 You can see the twist a mile away and it does meander but Turner and Mcdermet keep it watfchable
