Critics Consensus

Jessabelle hints at a bright future for star Sarah Snook, but clouds her performance with a cliched -- and tasteless -- storyline.

Flounders with uncertainty of direction as it touches on socio-economic depression, demons, vengeance, race and culture but never fleshes anything out. Everything feels like an after-thought as opposed to being cohesively constructed and interlaced.

Genuinely scary and atmospheric to begin with, but sadly loses its way about half way thru and ends in an underwhelming and unconvincing manner.
