Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Fans can expect a good laugh as the cast from Smith's previous films reunite for Jay and Silent Bob's last bow. The loose plotting and crude language may be too much for others though.

Has the lazy, bric-a-brac atmosphere of one of those blown-off movies made during down time on some bigger affair. Go to Full Review

Though it earns the odd chuckle on occasions, it's essentially just an elongated and largely pointless spoof movie designed only to glorify Smith's own hermetic movie-world. Go to Full Review

Draco P Mar 4, 2019 This is a film that perfectly portrays these two stoners in a comedic way while still managing to captures the spirit of this period in America. The pop culture banter that ranges from science fiction and fantasy movies to digging up reviews on a fictional MoviePoopShoot.com perfectly personifies what I remember about living during this period in time. The humor has aged well to me albeit I was a teenager when it came out and there is a high probability that I have nostalgia for this time in my life. Either way, I still love putting this movie on to relax. See more
Ron S Jan 29, 2019 Tack "Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back" up onto the growing list of comedies that the general populace goes crazy for, but that I just think is okay at best. All things -- especially with comedy -- subjective, I just wasn't laughing as much as I wanted to. Though I thought the cameos and meta humor were appropriately amusing and fresh, I just couldn't get past some of the more hopelessly "2000's" elements at hand. The weed, sex, and "gay" jokes are well and good for a movie of the time, but the simple fact is, I'm not living in that time anymore. I saw this for my first time in 2019. With that in mind, I didn't love it. Not that I was offended or turned off by the humor. I just simply didn't laugh as much at these things as I would have if I was a teen. An undoubtedly valid and noted effort, yes. But an ultimately lukewarm one. See more
Hermione M Jan 24, 2019 Kevin Smith returns with a new movie starring the two omnipresent characters from his viewaskview universe- Jay and Silent Bob. If anyone has seen any of Smith's films you'd have seen these two unique characters. Unfortunately, while the content is no less potentially offensive or crude than anything offered in Smith's debut, Clerks, the writing isn't as sharp and the jokes aren't as consistently hilarious. There are times when Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back offers from-the-belly guffaws, but, in comparison with Smith at his ribald best, too much of this movie seems like a pale imitation. The plot is simple- our two intrepid heroes (played, as always, by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith), leave their beloved state of New Jersey for Hollywood when they learn that a movie is going to be made about their comic book alter-egos, Bluntman and Chronic. Since they're not getting a cut of the rights money paid to Banky Edwards (Jason Lee), they have decided to ruin the production. First, however, they have to make the cross-country journey - a process that is difficult because they have no money. Along the way, they encounter a number of interesting individuals. Not as heartfelt as Clerks or Clerks 2 but still worth a watch. See more
