Years after the shark attacks that left Amity Island reeling, Sheriff Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) finds new trouble lurking in the waters. Mayor Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) wants to rid the beach town of the stain on its reputation. But the disappearance of a pair of divers suggests that all is not right. What to Know

Critics Consensus

Jaws 2 never approaches the lingering thrills of its classic predecessor, but it's reasonably entertaining for a sequel that has no reason to exist.

In Jaws 2 the shark sits up and begs to have its unreality noticed. With its lifeless eyes and autopilot movements, it looks as if it would be more at home patrolling your bath-tub. Go to Full Review

While it's not worth standing too long in line for, it's [a] pleasant little thriller. Go to Full Review

There was reason to believe that "Jaws 2" would be a mess. It isn't. It's better than most sequels. It's formula-ridden but slick, and the special effects work as intended. Go to Full Review

The result looks like a cross between "Moby Dick" and "Gidget Goes Hawaiian," with emphasis on the latter. Go to Full Review

It is the only Jaws sequel worth your time. Roy Schneider is really solid in this, and the films willingness to lean on some dark character developments sets it apart from the other films in the franchise. Go to Full Review

It’s not a strong reinterpretation, reimagining, or even trashification of the original; it’s just Jaws again, with less memorable characters and less effective suspense sequences. Go to Full Review

Abraham W Apr 13, 2019 As a shark fanatic and specifically I am obsessed with the Jaws series, Jaws 2 was nothing more than a sequal which worked out yet was a gateway to an extended series of bad sequals which disappoint the series and doesn't do justice to the orignal classic, overall...Jaws 2 was a great shark film yet not needed one bit. Han S Mar 2, 2019 Given the lower production values of the later two sequels based off of what clips I saw of them online, I guess Jaws 2 had to be the best/least bad of the sequels. By its own merits, it's honestly not that bad. It rehashes elements from the last movie, the shark gets more screentime allowing us to see more of its fake mechanical glory. It didn't even look burnt even though this is the one where the new threat has a burnt face. And the teen characters are annoying as hell, especially the girl who screams so much the cameraman and editor feel obliged to focus on the actress hamming up her "AAAAAAHHHH!!!!". Yet this sequel is still enjoyable enough for what it is. Steven Spielberg is sincerely missed but Roy Scheider's performance is good despite his reluctance to reprise the role only doing it to get back in Universal's good graces and his constant butting heads with the director. The thrills are...well, thrilling and the climax is definitely the best part of the entire movie even if we don't get the buddy movie that the last film had halfway through because Richard Dreyfuss didn't want to come back. I don't regret seeing Jaws 2 but I dread to think what the 3D and the Revenge are going to offer me. See more
Abraham Feb 25, 2019 Of course not as good as the original but it holds up its own a sequel. worth a watch.
Kylo S Feb 17, 2019 Great classic movie it is just as good as the first one. Awesome sound track. Wonderful acting great to see returning actors a must see. See more
Harry R Jan 22, 2019 A sequel in full B movie quality in all departments; a far cry from the original.
Draco S Jan 8, 2019 At the time as a kid it scared me as jaws did, when I watch it now you can't help but wish only the original had been made .
