Amnesiac Gulf War veteran Jack Starks (Adrien Brody) can't explain why he's been found at the scene of a murder. Ordered to a mental hospital, Jack is subjected to Dr. Thomas Becker's (Kris Kristofferson) unusual treatment plan, which involves mysterious injections, sensory deprivation and confinement in a straitjacket. Locked away on his own, Jack discovers he can travel to the future, where he's compelled to help a onetime acquaintance (Keira Knightley) and investigate his own odd fate.

Critics Consensus

The Jacket is a case of creepy style over substance.

Ultimately it doesn't amount to much, but like Starks' drug-induced trip, The Jacket is about the journey not the destination. Go to Full Review

The Jacket is definitely one of those jumbles of a movie that I would normally rail against. And yet, in this case, the film still somehow manages to hang together as whole. Go to Full Review

The film is energetic. But with a rather conventional love story at its heart -- not particularly convincingly acted by Brody and Knightley -- this is one jacket that doesn't fit. Go to Full Review

Abraham S Apr 10, 2019 The film has an intriguing idea but takes too long to finally kick in, which is something that ought to be a bit exasperating for some viewers, and it almost gets ruined by a silly ending that tries too hard to be optimistic against any logic left, even if the actors do their best to sell it. Han W Apr 4, 2019 I really enjoyed this movie for the mixing of crime & mental hospitals with time travel. It's not a movie for everyone but it has a heartwarming feel to it. See more
Ron P Oct 16, 2017 This movie is a bit dry, you have to sit through a stretch of long "thinking" scenes that can drag on. However if your into movies like "12 Monkeys" or "Dark City" This one will be your flavor. The ending, literally the last 2 minutes, are the payoff. See more
Leia R Feb 10, 2007 Well I've waited long enough before I watched this movie; like 12 years. It was good actually. A bit confusing at first but once you get the idea you enjoy it, I only wish the cast was better. See more
