What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's long, frantic, and stuffed to the gills with comic actors and set pieces -- and that's exactly its charm.

This is a grim new variant of the old knockabout form, a comedy that deliberately brutalises every convention that makes people laugh. What it be comes, not surprisingly, is a comedy hat makes people feel battered and bleak. Go to Full Review

Draco W Apr 5, 2019 I have never laughed so hard when I saw this movie as a kid and I still enjoy watching this widescreen classic. Lots of great slapsick, car chases, numerous cameos by famous comedians, and just a good time at the movies. See more
Theodore P Feb 18, 2019 Billed as stuffed to the gills and frantic, all we get are long scenes, desperate actors, and an antiquated car chase. There's nothing funny here, especially if it's something they're trying to make funny. Epic it's not. Everyone embarrasses themselves equally and there's little charm to the simple plot. See more
Han R Feb 1, 2019 This is easily one of the biggest movies in the history of film. If not for the story, then it's big for the cast. There's so many names in this cast, old and new, it's hard to say who the real star of the movie is. And that is what helps to make it work. If this wasn't an ensemble film, it wouldn't have been half as successful. The way everyone bounces off one another, either as a group or as one of the group bounces off another person that they bring into this crazy chase. As one watches, the movie juggles so much, you can't help but watch it all the way through just to see how it ends. As it begins with someone kicking the bucket (both figuratively and literally), it ends with the oldest gag in the book, but it happens to someone who's been asking for it throughout the whole adventure, you can't help but laugh and laugh along with the whole ensemble. All I can say is that this movie is hilarious, may it live on forever and may movie lovers enjoy it forever! While this movie could also be remade today (and I'm sure it has been done already), it might not work as well as it did when it was first made. The human elements can still work (greed, love of money being the root of all evil, etc.) but technology has advanced so much, traveling has become easier to do so and a big part of the humor was with the traveling not being so easy, with two characters dealing with a drunk pi See more
