After two years of failing to make it big in New York City, small-town model and actress Gladys Glover (Judy Holliday) takes a gamble by investing in billboard advertising to get her name out there. Almost immediately her risk pays off, and she finds herself inundated with media requests and fans, including the affections of the wealthy Evan Adams III (Peter Lawford) of the Adams Soap company. While Glover enjoys the spotlight, her boyfriend (Jack Lemmon) is less pleased about it.

An instant fan of Judy Holliday's, I shall continue to honor her memory by repurposing Gladys Glover's unimpeachable exit line whenever I need to beat a hasty retreat: "I think I'd better be going because I'm not having a good time." Go to Full Review

Feb 1, 2019 The best comedy movie ever made!
Harry P Nov 13, 2017 An offbeat romance where the lovebirds seem to be focusing on the wrong moments. Lemon is his usual screwball self with 20/20 emotional foresight, and Holiday shines as the gal who nearly gets it all during her 15 minutes of fame. See more
Hermione W Jul 23, 2017 I love the quirkiness of this idea that a woman wants to rent ad space just to display her name; one of the funniest ideas I've ever heard. That being said, there's only so far it can go before it has to focus on the moral aspects of vaingloriousness and love, but nothing is ever too sappy that makes the experience unenjoyable. Holliday does her schtick and Jack Lemmon is sincere as always. It's great seeing in retrospect that TV and fame haven't changed a bit. She basically becomes a reality TV star, a public persona not so much famous for anything besides being famous ala Kardashians. See more
