A hyperkinetic ride through Dublin's underside. Just imagine Robert Altman directing on speed. Go to Full Review

Not real Irish, but the movie kind: the latest to stumble off the [John] Ford assembly-line. Go to Full Review

Despite Intermission's low budget, the talented cast manage to bring to life a mostly light-hearted script, featuring some grimmer moments of cartoon violence. Go to Full Review

"Intermission" is a bloke-and-smoke spin on "Love, Actually." It's for women seeking a romantic comedy that doesn't reduce relationships to cutesy-poo homilies. By adding shootouts and car chases, it's slso for guys who are just not that into goo, either. Go to Full Review

Intermission feels fresh. Perhaps that's because ... it's not a quirky romp about a colorful bunch of wacky characters with a so-crazy-it-just-might-work idea. Go to Full Review

Luke S Sep 8, 2018 A raucous story of the interweaving lives and loves of small-town delinquents, shady cops, pretty good girls and very bad boys. With Irish guts and grit, lives collide, preconceptions shatter and romance is tested to the extreme. An ill-timed and poorly executed couple's break-up sets off a chain of events affecting everyone in town. There's the hapless romantic and his sex-starved best friend, the hotshot detective and the crook he's after, a young girl on the rebound with an older married man--not to mention his deserted wife, an ambitious TV producer, an abandoned fiancée, a preteen trouble-maker--all of whom are unaware of how their choices are profoundly intertwined... "Intermission" earned 2.5 million at the Irish box office, briefly becoming the most successful independent Irish film. The film was well received by critics. Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus describing the film as "An edgy and energetic ensemble story". Noted critics Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper gave the film good reviews. Roeper described it as "a likable film about nasty people". Patrick Condren became the first Irishman to be nominated at the Taurus World Stunt Awards following his work in the film. In the biggest single stunt ever filmed in Ireland, a double-decker bus was flipped 20 metres into the air. This Irish black comedy/crime/love film is trying to be a bit like "Short Cuts" with intertwined storylines for the characters, but it doesn´t manage to be as intriguing, despite a strong cast with Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy, Kelly Macdonald etc. I saw this film in 2003 when it came out, and I can´t say it has aged all that well. Vague direction, wobbly editing, jumpy story and I really don´t like all the handheld camera shots with way too many closeups. "Intermission" is not bad, but not that good either. It´s in the middle somewhere. See more
Anakin S Jul 25, 2018 There's no characters with any redeeming qualities. Not a good advert for the irish.
Harry R Mar 12, 2018 As dated as it is Irish, Intermission is a hit and miss anthology with intersecting stories that are charming individually but don't amount to much when taken as a whole. The screenplay reminds me of Tarantino, not his films, the man himself who says nothing new, but never shuts up, and eventually regurgitates something we've heard a million times yet are somehow content to hear again. Intermission is enjoyable mostly for the players like Colin Farrell (yes, that Colin Farrell) who gives a show-stealing mad dog performance, and a handful of outrageous moments that are fairly inspired if not original... which they're not.
