The beauty, the photography, the impact of the scenes shot on location in Vietnam, are all striking. But the people seem to drift and waver in their focus. Go to Full Review

Old fashioned in the best sense, Indochine is an epic romance on a scale rarely attempted these days, more rarely with success. Go to Full Review

A guilty pleasure, this French melodrama could have been called "Saigon, mon amour," a grand, sweeping and sprawling saga about a strong plantation owner (the beautiful Catherine Deneuve)--not unlike Vivien Leigh of Gone With the Wind. Go to Full Review

Abraham W Mar 10, 2019 Indochine is a typical foreign Oscar winner which favors style over substance. The plot is weak, sometimes sappy and the runtime is prolonged with some pacing issues. The characterization is also quite weak, but the protagonist is admirable and well played by Catherine Deneuve. The movie is sweet, charming and quite epic in terms of scope, cinematography, score and imagery, but in the end it is a standard period piece by all means. See more
Han R Feb 12, 2017 An archetypal epic with grand sweeping ambition. Some lovely scenery, decent acting and a big plot played out across a generation. Lots to enjoy here but it doesn't quite tie everything together and you never feel particularly sympathetic to any of the characters. See more
