I Trapped the Devil

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A slow-burning horror story that takes spine-tingling advantage of its setting and cast, I Trapped the Devil marks an auspicious debut for writer-director Josh Lobo.

A horror film more interested in sustained dread than easy answers. Scott Poythress gives a memorably unhinged performance. Go to Full Review

If you think of it as a film, you will scream for the sweet, blissful release of an axe buried in your head. But if you view it as a video version of the book The Idiot's Guide To 8mm Filmmakin, there are a number of useful lessons. Go to Full Review

There's something to appreciate in this seemingly simple little film for any horror fan. Go to Full Review

Lobo has an interesting eye for visual aesthetics but there's not really anything else that I'd recommend here. Go to Full Review

Albus G Apr 28, 2019 As a Horror movie fan the title and previous did grab my attention. The film itself however, failed to do so. About half the movie goes by and the audience is kept in the dark, zero to no suspense moments and the moments you do start to get excited about is quickly doused with bad writing. Lost my interest by about the 24 minute mark. See more
Luke W Apr 28, 2019 It's interesting to consider what this objectively talented ï¿ 1/2" despite still very raw as a visual and narrative storyteller ï¿ 1/2" debut writer/director is capable of achieving with an actual studio budget & a few sophomore improvements upon his freshman efforts here. What's also almost impossible not to be reminded of while watching this film by a young debut Horror Director is the practically identical plot to another Horror Director that also released their first (well, kind of first, more like second but first acknowledged work) Horror film to pretty warm reviews ï¿ 1/2" wherein the plot was literally about two family members, a man and a woman, who for no obvious reason decide to check in on their very isolated and mentally unstable male relative & the guests arrive to learn that their unhinged sibling has locked a paranormal or alien form of evil in their cellar, with guns, knives, and inept police officers being domed like red shirts in the third act, same as this film ï¿ 1/2" Mickey Keating. Keating's film POD was a near identical film to this one, where you swap out the devil for some unknown alien monster that the government either created or is after so they can weaponize it. Anyway, hopefully for Me. Lobo, he continues to improve with the next few films he makes just as Keating also did...additionally, I hope Mickey Keating can bounce back from his recent total dud, "Psychopaths," and film the awesomeness that fueled his making of great indie entries such as Darling & Carnage Park. Ritual was pretty great, too, but I'm already far off subject. See more
