If the 2025 "I Know What You Did Last Summer" proves anything, it’s that you can be totally emotionally disengaged with a movie and also want to boo at the end.

Very much a "re-quel" in the spirit of the most recent Scream movies, it follows a new group of teens, while also finding room for Summer veterans Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Without that adolescent sense of fear and failure in the face of growing up, and without the generational tensions, the film has nothing to say.

Considering that the first movie isn't a masterpiece, I suppose it makes sense that this new production isn't anything special either. But as a traditional slasher with low ambitions, it's at least fine to watch at home. [Full review in Spanish].

I Know What you Did Last Summer fails to capture any of the fun and surprise of the original film and trades in an intelligent script for one laden with nostalgia and just asking to be ripped apart by a fish hook.

While I Know What You Did Last Summer may not be of the best horrors of this year it does more than enough to fulfill the excitement of fans of the past while also impressing new generation fans as well.

Our new villain does more than “hook” the victims. I was in love with the kills, but underwhelmed by the killer reveal. If you cherish the original, this movie might piss you off. If you enjoyed it for what it was, then there is plenty of fun to be had.

The film has fun with the fact that it’s the second sequel to a picture that was released nearly 30 years ago, while also finding occasions to pay homage to the original, as well as the meta-slasher that spawned it, Scream.

Sadly the result is little more than an overly-familiar retread of the first film, ultimately making for a rather dull & monotonous sequel that's not likely to please fans who were hoping for something a little more original.

Sadly, the lazy script is a letdown and even when it takes chances, there isn’t enough meat on the storyline bones.

A pale comparison to the original thanks to its uninspired story that seems more intent on frustrating franchise fans with some divisive decisions instead of providing a good scream.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was playing it a bit too safe for most of the movie...Robinson finally takes some big swings in the climax that will shock some longtime die-hards of the franchise.

This film is a slick, watchable thriller that coasts on nostalgia and aesthetics. It’s brisk, bloody, and barely believable—but it doesn’t pretend to be anything deeper. If you're after disposable thrills and pretty people making poor decisions...

Director and co-writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson tosses in plenty of red herrings and suspects to keep us guessing, and enough horror action to keep us on edge. But the dialogue is what makes this film an unexpected surprise.

Much will be made of the return of Julie James and Ray Bronson, and they're an admitted highlight, if for no other reason than to marvel that 1) Julie only moved 45 minutes away from the scene of the grisly killings, and 2) Ray never left!

I was so looking forward to this film and it features one of the best cameos in cinema history! But the ending and climax was disappointing. Happy to see Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt on screen together again though.
