Hyena Road runs two hours long, but its entire narrative could be wedged into a half-hour documentary. Go to Full Review
Daniel M. Gold New York Times Mar 11, 2016
"Hyena Road" is a skillfully filmed reminder, if one is needed, about why Afghanistan earned its status as the "graveyard of empires." Go to Full Review

Gross ... is ultimately unable to satisfy the rules of dramatic engagement. Go to Full Review

Paints a picture of the difficulty in fighting a war in very confusing times. Go to Full Review

It's enjoyable enough on first watch, but it's unlikely you'll want to see it again. Go to Full Review

Gross manages to craft a feature that's horrifying and strangely inviting at the same time, delivering solid characterization to go with all the chaos. Go to Full Review

Draco P Feb 20, 2019 Decent premise turned into a non-sensical love drama that will leave you cringing at every turn
Kylo S Nov 30, 2018 Well filmed and more realistic injuries than the "shoot 'em up" but be gentle on the eyes Hollywood stuff. (Saving Private Ryan excepted) also nice to see a war movie from a Canadian perspective. See more
Albus R Nov 25, 2018 Hyena Road is a military movie that echoes the tried-and-true formula of personal sacrifice, incredibly tough decision-making, and the disconnect between the enlisted soldier and the people behind the screens. It does the job well. While the romantic arc is uninteresting and frankly unnecessary, the character development is great and the plot allows for a deeper look at what drives the Afghan people. It's also a reminder that we send those we love to fight in wars far from home that they did not ask for, and when they return, they leave pieces of themselves behind in the dust. See more
Nov 21, 2018 The type of movie that would be a blockbuster with a bigger budget. Excellent storyline from a Canadian perspective... well done lads. See more
Theodore W Nov 21, 2018 Good considering it's a a budget Canadian movie. Some of the acting isn't so great but it's mostly on the romantic sub plot which is easy to ignore and not really important. They did a great job of highlighting the complexities of war in Afghanistan. Most of the negative reviews I can't help noticing are American. Americans are typically unaware that Canadians are culturally different so no surprise there. (American soldiers who have served with Canadians I've found don't have this bias) See more
