Critics Consensus

Much like the submarine in its story, Hunter Killer cruises the murky action depths, following a perfunctory course into territory that's been charted many times before.

Once all this starts coming together, Hunter Killer is absorbing, even if Marsh and his screenwriters never pretend to be half as interested in their characters as they are in the submarines.

It's nice to spend a couple of hours in a fictional world where we don't have to worry about the American president doing something ruinously idiotic and evil. It plays like a nostalgic fairy tale.

[You'll] find more enjoyment watching a plastic yellow submarine sink to the bottom of a bathtub than watching this film.

Military stories in particular have long gotten away with total homogeneity, but the U.S. military is much more diverse than Hunter Killer suggests.

I've read what some of the, "Critics," had to say about this film and well honestly its clear they've never been on a Submarine before. This movie was so good I swear I had serious battlestations PTSD flashbacks. While there is a plethora of technical errors; and dear sweet baby Jesus was i knife handing the everliving shit out of my tv while i watched; overall its exactly what i wanted it to be, an action movie to end all action movies. Grab yourself a few beers, get a few buddies, get real drunk and enjoy this movie. Oh and when the wrench scene shows up, imagine if that wrench touches the deck the world implodes. That is how important that wrench is.

Engaging non-stop action !! Enjoyed it immensely. Well researched and real world sub environment.

What an under-rated spectacle! Toss back a bag of popcorn and a tumbler of soda-pop and enjoy a mindless, edge-of-your-seat, high-tension, action-thriller. Who cares if it takes itself way too serious and is somewhat predictable? Had similar flare as Owen Wilson's Behind Enemy Lines (less humor though), Mark Wahlberg's Lone Survivor with a Hunt for Red October stand-off, and other outrageous military adventures. Thorough cinematic fun-ness... what movies are meant to be!
