Although Paul Boray is a talented violinist, he comes from a poor, working-class background and doesn't have the connections needed to make it in the music world. Woman-about-town Helen Wright does, though, and after seeing him perform, she takes him under her wing, opening doors he couldn't access before. Their relationship soon turns into a romantic one, but the destructive behavior of Helen may be too much for Paul to bear.

A melodrama about desire and passion that lacks a few strings to be moving, dragged by a tide of situations mostly out of tune due to a lack of chemistry between Crawford and Garfield. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Now a days regarded as camp, Jean Negulesco's melodramatic exploration of desire features Joan Crawford at her limited best, but the music played by Isaac Stern and lush score by Franz Waxman offer pleasure, and so do Garfield, the decor and costumes. Go to Full Review

Feb 1, 2019 The best romance movie ever made!
Finn R Jul 8, 2018 Los ùltimos minutos de esta pelicula son grandiosos.
Theodore L Aug 5, 2017 Lush and lavishly mounted escapist melodrama. Thin plot, but made special by the star power of Garfield and Crawford. Both give confident, sensitive performances, and the Adrian-clad Crawford never looked more glamorous in all her long career, right up to the startling climax of the film It may be corn, but that corn is the color of pure gold. Kylo S May 21, 2017 Another Joan Crawford bitch movie. Great music. Melodramatic, especially the ending. Difficulty imagining a violin genius with the face of John Garfield. Always luv Oscar Levant, though he goes on a bit long sometimes. See more
