In 1987, murderous couple John and Evelyn roam the streets of Perth, Australia, searching for their latest victim. Fate leads them to Vicki Maloney, a teen who snuck out of her house at night to go to a party. Now held captive in a room, Vicki must use her wits to try and drive a wedge between the crazed duo before they can finish her off.

Critics Consensus

Smartly constructed and powerfully acted, Hounds of Love satisfies as a psychological thriller with a few nasty surprises -- and marks writer-director Ben Young as a promising talent.

Hounds of Love disappoints as well as disgusts by leaning too far into 'torture porn', all the while leaving far too little to the imagination.

t is profound, explicit and categorically shattering. Ben Young has set up Hounds of Love to not only tell the tale of one girl’s strength and courage but manages to induce his viewers to stay by her side throughout the terrifying despair.

Hounds of Love lives and dies on the performances by Cummings and Booth, who are both exquisite. An extremely rough watch from Ben Young, who tried to distance himself from the Birnies' true crime story, but the inspiration is as clear as day.

Wow! What a great movie. Had some tough scenes to get through, as expected with a kidnapping/torture movie. It worked out in the end but it was a tough road to get there. The ending was a bit weak, and unbelievable to me (slightly) and could have been done better. The acting was phenomenal. The setting was great, really showing the different classes in society.

So if the question of why you're even watching this shit doesn't beg itself long before the half-way mark then you're probably a dickhead. I'm keen to watch more of Ben's work though. He fucked up here but showcased a lot of skill too. Great "Australian" story though........yeah, right.

Very creepy and well made. I liked that it wasnt overly graphic and left the nasty stuff to the imagination. The setting in 70s Perth was very familiar to me. Horrible story of course, but well handled.

Amazing, but the story is very ordinary and didn't give something new ,only the two actors are the best and their expressions which made me say amazing and also the movie failed to explain their characters very well

A movie that never lives up to the self importance it claims for itself. While brilliantly performed and competently directed, you can't hide a shallow script.

PROFITANT D'UN SCÉNARIO QUI N'EST VISIBLEMENT PAS POUR TOUT LE MONDE, HOUNDS OF LOVE EST UN THRILLER PSYCHOLOGIQUE INTENSE MAIS AVEC UNE BONNE ÉCRITURE ET DES BONNES PERFORMANCES DE SES ACTEURS PRINCIPAUX. COEURS SENSIBLE S'ABSTENIR.
