Critics Consensus

Its flagrantly silly script -- and immensely likable cast -- make up for most of its flaws.

I'll go, it's a comedy, it'll be dumb and funny. And it was dumb. But it wasn't that funny yet. Go to Full Review

An irreverent, guilty pleasure, frat boy comedy, it blows a big fat raspberry at sci-fi fans and tells them to stick their Flux Capacitors where the sun don't shine. Go to Full Review

It may be a generational gap that turned me off, but I thought it was all quite ridiculous and the dialogue worse than coarse. Trust me and not those in their 30s. It is not worth your time. Go to Full Review

The result is the kind of lazy comedy that demands a lazy audience. If you’re feeling lazy, you could do worse. Go to Full Review

This farce is not as dumb as it seems. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

George S Jan 28, 2019 This movie was great for anybody growing up in the 80s. It was great comedy and the references were hilarious. John Cusack is playing his classic role and his "hating" the 80s was great considering it's the decade that made him. Rob Corddry & Craig Robinson were hilarious together and the betting scene made me crack up. Clark Duke wasn't bad, in his role, but it seemed like you knew he was going to be the "geek". This movie actually made me look into who "Hunter S Thompson" was and seeing MTv (in it's prime) and ALF were great too. I suppose you had to grow up, in the 80s, to truly appreciate this movie for what it is kind of the way you needed to be a teenager (in that era) to appreciate Family Guy. I really believe this was one of the most under-rated movies of 2010. I suppose the best thing about this movie was it had no "slow" moments and kept me laughing through to the end. See more
Han S Nov 10, 2018 This film was almost good.
Nov 4, 2018 Hilarious!!! Love it!!
Oct 26, 2018 Love the humor. If you lived through the 80's, and were a little wild... you get it. John Cusack knows what he's doing. A smart intelligent comedy. OK, I never thought Hangover was funny.. so... But I thought Dumb and Dumber is one of the funniest movies ever made. Hot Tube.. is one of my favorite comedies.. can watch it over and over again... but I can relate to the characters.. because my friends were like that in the 80's. See more
Leia L Oct 20, 2018 I gave it four stars because it ran kinda long...dragged a little bit, honestly but overall i really liked it!
Aug 5, 2018 Been on an 80's kick lately so I decided to watch this, with low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised, it has some obnoxious schtick but for the most part I actually really enjoyed it. Worth watching at least once, as someone else said, it's the best movie about a hot tub time machine I've ever seen. See more
