For Rod Kimble, performing stunts is a way of life, even though he is rather accident-prone. Poor Rod cannot even get any respect from his stepfather, Frank, who beats him up in weekly sparring matches. When Frank falls ill, Rod devises his most outrageous stunt yet to raise money for Frank's operation — and then Rod will kick Frank's butt.

Critics Consensus

Hot Rod has brazen silliness and a few humorous set pieces on its side, but it's far too inconsistent to satisfy all but the least demanding slapstick lovers.

A charmless idiot, a clumsy rip-off of Jackass and one more tiresome exercise in arrested adolescence -- add them up and you have Hot Rod.

A film that got to show Andy Samberg's comedic talents that really works for him. It relies on a lot of slapstick but the delivery really works. It is obvious that he is going to end up with Denise in the end played by Isla Fisher but he relies on his personalty to end up with her and it pays off in the end. It has a Napoleon Dynamite theme to it but with an actual plot.

While Schaffer's Hot Rod isn't going to knock your socks off, its outlandish and ridiculous humor may touch a cord for some audiences.
