Beneath Easter Island, in a giant factory that manufactures the world's Easter candy, the popular rabbit is preparing to pass the mantle to his son, E.B. (Russell Brand). But E.B. has no interest in the job and would rather be a drummer. He runs away to Los Angeles, where an unemployed slacker named Fred O'Hare (James Marsden) accidentally runs into him. Feigning injury, E.B. tricks Fred into giving him shelter, but an oversized chick is planning a coup back on Easter Island.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's impressively animated, but Hop's script is so uninspired that not even James Marsden's frantic mugging can give it any bounce.

Crude humor in a movie aimed at children is a deal-breaker, but Playboy bunny jokes are lazy even in movies for adults. Go to Full Review

Finn S Apr 20, 2019 This movie has a terrible message. If I could leave less than half a star I would.
Abraham S Dec 24, 2018 LOVE THIS MOVIE! I used to wake up every Easter (when I was 7, 8, 9, and 10) and this would be playing..highlight of every Easter back then! still love it now!!! YAYAY!! See more
Leia L Dec 1, 2018 Dumb and poorly Animated
Hagrid W Oct 11, 2018 This movie didn't do well. It didn't have a good storyline, it didn't have good character development and it had the worst third act I've ever seen. However, it was funny. See more
Albus L Jul 28, 2018 i thought it could of done better but its not the worst
Han R Mar 30, 2018 Seeing as how it's almost Easter and this is the only Easter movie I can find, unless you include Rise of the Guardians, I was mostly stuck with this live-action/computer-animated pile of garbage. While I don't despise Illumination as much as a majority of people seem to, I really didn't like this second entry from the studio. It had potential seeing as how the same special effects company that did the animation for Alvin and the Chipmunks and Yogi Bear was now responsible for a completely original story that wasn't based off of a cartoon. The animation looks good and the live-action/CGI mixing looks incredibly convincing. I'll give Hank Azaria some credit for his performance as Carlos and the factory looks inviting. Think of it as Willy Wonka's chocolate factory centered specifically around Easter. But I found this movie quite annoying. The characters are unlikable, the humour isn't that funny, the finale is incredibly anti-climactic, it feels rather mean-spirited and the main character NEVER! SHUTS! UP!. I also was quite nitpicky with this movie. Like Easter only happens once a year, why are they treating it so seriously? And the rabbit can be the Easter bunny around whichever month it is decided it is Easter and be a drummer on the remainder of the year. I even almost sided with James Marsden because E.B. seemed to inadvertently ruin his life. Also, why are we focusing on a human character...AGAIN? Just because it's not based off of a cartoon doesn't give you the right to think that you can just get away with it. For shame, Illumunation, for shame. Hop is harmless enough but it panders to children. Even Minions is a better movie than this. See more
