The performances are universally strong, the writing spare and muscular and the photography arresting. Go to Full Review

One of Ritt's best films, with fine performances all round, impressive Death Valley locations, and superlative camerawork from James Wong Howe. Go to Full Review

For this is a first-rate cooking of a western recipe-not a great Western film nor a creation, but an excellent putting of heat to a fine selected blend. Go to Full Review

As a Western, Hombre offers enough excitement to stand up with the best of them. As a motion picture with sure-handed direction, a literate script and excellent acting it also offers something for all audiences, Western fans or not. Go to Full Review

Leia G Nov 25, 2015 Paul Newman was captivating and so in control with his character. Diane Cilento played off of him really well. Martin Balsum & Richard Boone all were good. This film had a haunting sort of flavor to it...probably because of the SW desert and the independence of Paul Newman's character John Russell. To me, one of Newman's best films right up there with Cool Hand Luke. See more
Hermione M Mar 8, 2014 Started a little slow, but an interesting journey involving racism and morality. 1001 movies to see before you die.
