What to Know

Critics Consensus

Faster paced for today's audiences, this Hills remake ratchets up the gore for the hardcore horror fans, but will turn away casual audiences.

Like Craven's original, Aja's version gets the job done - it makes your stomach turn, puts you on edge, and gives you a horror-movie ride. Go to Full Review

What's fundamentally missing is the anarchic, irrational unpredictability that made the original so terrifying. Go to Full Review

Yet while the killers' casualness is deeply disturbing, it's the ordinary family's shocking survival tactics that give the movie its lingering impact. Go to Full Review

A good movie that never aims to achieve perfection. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

For such a dark, gritty, ferocious film, the big, melodramatic finish betrays its creepy, low-budget aesthetic. Go to Full Review

Mar 1, 2019 One of the better Horror remakes.Good horror movie overall.I like lots stylistic choices in this movie.
George S Feb 22, 2019 Wish Kathleen Quinlan has a longer, meatier role, she is such a fantastic actress, the movie is okay, Kathleen is great as ususal See more
Abraham S Feb 20, 2019 I like this movie. I like the idea of ot to. To me, its better than the original. It's not that different from the original but it's more modernized and it adds some new things here and there. I like and kind of don't like how the cannibals are like monsters and not a family in this movie. All in all it's a good movie and a pretty standard remake. See more
Harry M Jan 15, 2019 My interest started going downhill right about where Bobby didnt tell them about the dog right away- it really irks me when the plot requires characters to make unrealistic choices in order to move forward. From there it just gets straight messed up but not in a good way. Very much not my kind of movie. See more
Hermione W Dec 27, 2018 Before watching the movie, I knew very little about the story but the movie definitely does a good job of telling it. For a horror movie, it succeeds in what it needs to do; there are no jump scares or any cheap effects. The gore is heavy but certainly an upgrade to the cheesy effects of the original. Some of the elements of this reboot make it almost superior to he original. The twist with the gas station owner and the nuclear fallout mutants feel like a good addition to the story. The movie might feel like it drags on for a while towards the end but I recommend it to any horror movie fans. In the end a solid 3.5 stars. See more
Draco S Sep 16, 2018 One word: Brutal! If you take the story in to account, this is actually a quality horror film. I just wasn't a huge fan of the ending.
