Leia L Feb 15, 2019 Very well presented documentary, co-directed by Ashley York and Sally Rubin. York is returning to Eastern Kentucky, where she was born and raised to try and counter the generations-old negative stereotypes of hillbillies from Appalachia. I thought the film was quite effective in doing just that. The doc was filmed during the 2016 Presidential race and I was quite interested in hearing why some of her family members and others were so enthusiastic about voting for Donald Trump. He held numerous rallies in those areas considering it a strong base for him. All in all, I thought the pacing and editing of the film was quite good. As mentioned, the complexities of the people and the area was well presented to counter some terrible stereotypes as well. To note, there were no subtitles available on my DVD copy but I was able to access them through the closed captions option on my remote. See more
Albus S Jan 30, 2019 Excellent film that shows the complexity of Appalachia.
