Once a collegiate wrestler, Scott Voss (Kevin James) is now a 42-year-old, apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten the school's music program and its teacher (Henry Winkler), Scott springs into action. He dusts off his long-unused wrestling skills and earns money for the program by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Though the school nurse (Salma Hayek) thinks he's crazy, Scott gains something he never expected, and the school rallies behind him.

Critics Consensus

Here Comes the Boom benefits from Kevin James's genial presence but the film doesn't deliver enough laughs to live up to its title -- or enough satisfying plot to make up the difference.

The way James, Rutten, and Winkler connect is engaging and amusing, and Here Comes the Boom is moderately successful on that chemistry alone. And if something can crack my cold, cold heart, that's a victory.

Ultimately, the film is much too derivative to stand (and deliver) on its own, but at its best moments, it proves amiably average, chiefly due to James' natural charms.

Couldn't Kevin have raised the money by selling hard drugs or trafficking underage women? The closing scenes would, under those circumstances, have seemed only marginally less peculiar.

Give the film a try. It'll win you over before the credits roll.

"Here Comes The Boom isn't the best movie in the world (Creed and Creed II will get you beatings and a great story) but it's sentimental, gripping and funny."

This was a pretty cool movie i watched using boxxy software. It has good story and stuff, kind of an old school style, that's why I love it.

This was a good Kevin James movie. Defintietly one of the best that I have seen. It had heart ,humor, and was an enjoyable movie. It was funny to see Joe Rogan with hair in a movie and as always I love Selma Hayek.

An unexpectedly fun and comedic entry in the filmography of Kevin James, Here Comes the Boom may not break any new ground - hell, it's not even that memorable - but the wonderful performances, thoughtful storyline and even somewhat enjoyable fight sequences make it a WAY-better-than-average movie in its own right.

Funny, entertaining and also heartfelt, Here Comes The Boom showcases one of Kevin James' more genuinely sentimental performances, even if the narrative is a bit less satisfying.

But, if the science teacher is giving all his money back to the school so they can pay the music teacher, doesn't that mean that the science teacher is paying the music teacher to teach music at the school where the science teacher works for free? What a sucker!
