What to Know

Critics Consensus

Hell Fest might give less demanding horror fans a few decent reasons to scream, but it's neither clever nor frightening enough to leave much of an impression.

Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review Nov 16, 2018
It wasn't anything new, it was old riffs done in a way that was actually quite efficient.... The nastiest is the right level of nasty, the silliness is the right level of silly. Go to Full Review

Plotkin's relentless button-pushing, coupled to the script's cringe-inducing yooftalk, instead mark Hell Fest as unmistakably the work of middle-aged execs trying to jab suggestible teenagers back into cinemas. Go to Full Review

They did this 40 years ago, and better, in 'Halloween.' It's getting really, really tired. Go to Full Review

I can’t recommend seeing Hell Fest in theaters, but it might be worth watching at home when it gets to Netflix. Even then, you will probably enjoy making fun of it with friends more than actually watching it for scares. Go to Full Review

Hell Fest is not a well-rounded film, but it meets expectations by steeping the viewer in spooky imagery and squeezing some suspense out of its premise making it a worthwhile October watch. Go to Full Review

The movie remains satisfying because it's not trying to approach the slasher genre from a place of irony or nostalgia, as many have in recent years. Go to Full Review

Albus R Apr 26, 2019 The concept was interesting, but with a lagging pace and next to non-existent fleshing out of characters, I found myself begging for The Other to get on with killing the cast off. See more
George S Apr 9, 2019 The trailer gave me a good feeling about this movie, yet it turns out to be another wannabe slasher film. The story and script is cringey, it could have done much better. See more
Harry G Apr 6, 2019 How do I hate thee? Let my count the ways. The villain has no back story, none, until the film's final second, which is the only interesting second of the movie. In a good slasher flick, we learn the Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Kreuger mythos, which makes the baddie so much more terrifying. THIS guy's a nobody in a lousy mask. Only two of the characters HAVE any character to speak of. The rest are not even sketches. The deaths are lame. It's too bad when those with the money to create something like this can't hook up with folks creative enough to pull it off. This could have been something worthwhile. See more
Apr 5, 2019 I thought it was fantastic!
Han W Apr 3, 2019 ***SPOILER WARNING*** While I enjoyed this movie a great deal there were a number of times that I found this to be greatly disappointing. I really HATE movies that allow the prey to get the jump on the predator and land a single hit and then run away. If you're in a fight for your life you would not run away after a single hit, you would take whatever weapon you could get your hands on and make damn sure that they won't be getting up again! Maybe make the conflict a little more drawn out but once they get the proper drop they do some real damage ffs! It's kind of depressing seeing female leads with absolutely no ability to cause lasting damage to the villains in these types of movies, especially when essentially taking a Louisville Slugger to someone's dome! I did love the choice to choose Tony Todd for the park owner as I was always a huge fan of his as Candy Man. Either way I would love to see a follow-up to this movie for sure and maybe some better effort in realism. The girls in the movie were just too stupid for their own good! Also...who the f*** looks at stairs leading INTO A BUILDING that says "Welcome to Hell" and thinks "Oh, this must be an exit!" WTF? LOL See more
Finn P Mar 27, 2019 I'm not one to balk at the critics, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wouldn't let the complaints deter you from watching this one. I'm sorry it didn't do better, but I believe in time people will see this as a movie that does what slasher horror movies are supposed to do -- and that it does it with excellence. See more
