What to Know

Critics Consensus

It can't help but feel like the prelude it is, but Deathly Hallows: Part I is a beautifully filmed, emotionally satisfying penultimate installment for the Harry Potter series.

As directed by David Yates, it moves too fast. It never lingers, or stops to smell the roses. Go to Full Review
Sophie Mayer Sight & Sound Jul 10, 2018
Rather than taking time to wonder, to immerse, or even to grieve at the crucial moments of the story, the film and its characters are driven on towards this future confrontation with videogame logic and an endless flow of exposition-based dialogue. Go to Full Review

Maturing performances are a bonus, but the show's the thing, and by now it seems much richer than any theme park that could ever be made from it. Go to Full Review

These are somehow getting worse. I don't enjoy any of the characters and I'm starting to think the build up towards the finale won't be worth it. Go to Full Review

This is overlong and full of awkward beats that are almost cringe-worthy. I was never a fan of splitting the final story into two films. Go to Full Review

Where the enjoyment could be just from seeing all of this effort happen, the combined films of the final chapter in the series delivers epic entertainment worthy of its distinct place in movie history. Go to Full Review

Poe R Apr 20, 2019 Being part 1 of the two movies made for the last Harry Potter book, it's all the suspense the fans need! As the series starts to come to a close, Voldemort, also knows as, "The One Who Shall Not Be Named", comes closer and closer to defeat. With the tension building up, Harry Potter and all his friends are teaming up to fight the final battle which we all love. It's beautifully filmed, has amazing visuals and performances from the whole cast as the Harry Potter films usually do, and is definitely very emotionally satisfying. See more
Apr 16, 2019 not so funny, it wasn't so funny, nor so interesting 3,5/10- Anton R. Skovborg

Ron L Mar 18, 2019 Its kinda of a Horror movie
Draco R Mar 10, 2019 This is not a bad movie by any means. However, this movie feels longer than it needs to be and is in my opinion definitely a movie for Harry Potter fans, not for the average viewers. 3.5/5 See more
Abraham W Mar 9, 2019 Nice set up for the final film, believe it was cut at the correct timestamp. Only wish they had split other books this way, Goblet of Fire would have definitely benefited from a split. See more
