Veering between gleaming, clean-lined techno-lust and a punkier, junk-space aesthetic, it really is a marvel to look at: an artfully dazzling distillation of videogamey flash, proggy space-majesty and Final Fantasy flounce.

The dazzling visuals and immense scale employed by director/animator Shinji Aramaki adequately compensate (just) for the derivative narrative in his update/reboot of Leiji Matsumoto's visionary 1970's space-opera, 'Harlock'.

Mildly entertaining at best. This is more like a final fantasy game compressed into 2 hours. The characters are childishly emotional, and the climactic point of the entire movie, when revealed, was utterly confusing. The graphics are nice, but honestly, after every time i hear an explosion in space, I cringe (there is no sound in space). Overall, this is a moderate to mediocre movie with a confusing amount of substance and cliches.

Nice Final Fantasy style animation with a cool concept. Would have been even better if the ending made sense. Guess that could have been corrected if they hadn't edited out the parts that fit it all together.

the cgi was fine, it was the plot that really made me mad and it got worse as the film went on. the biggest problem for me was the very video game ending. the best part of the move for me was the flashbacks of the homecoming war and harlocks past, i feel that would have made a better film
