The result is a focused, if at times melodramatic, take on the play's beating heart. Go to Full Review
Joe Leydon Variety Jan 10, 2014
A modestly inventive but curiously bloodless version of the Bard's timeless tragedy. Go to Full Review
Nicolas Rapold New York Times Jan 9, 2014
While Mr. Ramsay accomplishes some kind of a trick in streamlining the play, his trimming of corners feels more like a taking away of the center. Go to Full Review

Jan 11, 2019 The story didn't fit with the 1940's setting, having the whole movie contained within one house makes it very awkward whenever a character yells (why can't they hear each other?) Keeping the Shakespearean dialogue in the new setting just feels out of place and very confusing. Hamlet just seems like he's sad & drunk throughout the entirety of the movie, and no one seems to have any character depth. I think if the story was adapted to fit the setting rather than just plopped into it, it would be significantly better. See more
