Over the course of 10 days in May 1969, an infantry squad led by Lt. Frantz (Dylan McDermott) and composed of both seasoned troops and new recruits, attempts to take a hill during the Vietnam War. In between attacks, the squad members deal with the other psychological stresses of the war, including the effect on morale of the antiwar movement back home and flashes of racial hostility between white and African-American soldiers, all mediated by the cool-headed medic, Doc (Courtney B. Vance).

Irvin, who shot a documentary in Vietnam in 1969, the year the action takes place, makes fine use of the Philippines locations and the verisimilitude supplied by the production team. Go to Full Review

There are a couple of rocky moments, but the large cast of unknowns go through hell convincingly, and illustrate the randomness of mortality. Go to Full Review

A well-made Vietnam War film that narrows its attention to the men of a single platoon in a specific operation. Go to Full Review

The most remarkable traits of this realistically detailed chronicle of a crucial, bloody Vietnam War combat is that it steers clear of Stallone's right-wing machismo in Rambo and of Oliver Stone's metaphorical meanings (good versus evil) in Platoon. Go to Full Review

Abraham S Dec 12, 2018 Great FILM! My fav or the Vietnam war type. THIS IS what you want in a war movie
Luke P Oct 18, 2018 Best quotes of any Vietnam movie - hands down.
Jun 3, 2018 Great movie i recommend it highly over the preachyness of platoon and full metal jacket which portray soldiers as all being shitty and bad . It is based on a ACTUAL battle that occured using the actual right callsigns and division that was involved . Uses a cast of folks who at the time of filming were nobodys but later went on to do alot of starring roles on tv and film. See more
Ron S Jan 14, 2018 boring soap opera set in the vietnam war
Hagrid W Dec 30, 2017 There are those who claim that Hamburger Hill is the least remembered of 80s Vietnam movies, a niche genre all its own in that decade, because it was a right wing, reactionary movie intended to defend soldiers. Time has a way of changing perceptions and now that Hamburger Hill is turning 30 years old, it's interesting to look back on the film and talk about the perceptions of the film and how they've evolved over the years and the ways in which guilt, shame and history have altered the way many view Vietnam. https://geeks.media/classic-movie-review-hamburger-hill?_ga=2.1042801.1126457623.1513947710-953607229.1513947710 See more
