Clayton Dillard Slant Magazine Feb 26, 2024
By initially focusing on Doc, who’s more receptive to Wyatt’s council here, the film winds up giving the men equal footing as protagonists, making this something closer to a buddy picture. Go to Full Review

A solid contribution to the Western genre, rarely soaring but always maintaining interest with its slow-and-steady approach to the story. Go to Full Review
Moira Walsh America Magazine Jul 14, 2021
The picture runs too long but its cumulative tension and feeling for the period bespeak an out-of-the-ordinary Western; the gunfight of the title furnishes a stunningly staged climax. Go to Full Review

Feb 1, 2019 The best thrilling movie ever made!
Kylo S Nov 3, 2017 A return to traditional Hollywood Western fair here with a star studded cast that adds some class to the film. Burt Lancaster plays traditional lawman Wyatt Earp with Kirk Douglas as gambler/unpopular gunman/dentist Doc Holliday. Directed by John Sturges (The Great Escape) the film is quite lavish and adds glamour to the crescendo a plain old 4 minute or so gunfight between Earp, his brothers and Holliday and the Clanton gang in Tombstone, Arizona. The film looks high budget. It has that polished production feel. Perhaps Sturges brings that to films. Look out for Dennis Hopper, DeForest Kelley and Lee Van Cleef in supporting roles. The music score is quite interesting. Composed by Dimitri Tiomkin and featuring a repetitive title song from Frankie Laine. See more
Luke R May 16, 2017 Gunfight at the O.K. Corral is overly extended and rarely truly great with too many details and a weaker first act, but it is still a pretty solid, competently made western flick featuring very good performances from both Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas, a memorable final scene, good visuals and truly excellent score. Ron R Feb 13, 2017 Tombstone is better.
Luke S Dec 16, 2012 It has its moments with Douglas and Lancaster, but it lacks in keeping your interest with all its melodrama. It does have a great cast with a Hopper making a young appearance. 1001 movies to see before you die. See more
