While there's nothing here that's going to challenge anyone, even the very young, A Goofy Movie has some sweet moments that should be shared by fathers and their young sons.

...the characters in "A Goofy Movie," for all their cartoonish ways, are a lot like you and me. And that's what gives the movie its depth and resonance.

Children will love the animation and music, and parents can relate to some of the positive messages conveyed in the film. Welcome to the '90s, Goofy. You fit right in.

This movie is excellent for the little ones up through the preteen years. They'll like the slapstick, the wild and wacky antics of a cartoon cross-country adventure and Max's quest to be cool at school.

The movie might be "Goofy," but like its stumbling, good-natured namesake, it has its heart in the right place.

...even an instructive story and some '90s flourishes can't totally disguise the fact that we're watching an animated movie that makes "Beauty and the Beast" look like Masterpiece Theater.

In the end, A Goofy Movie most likely would please under-10's...particularly those who enjoy good old-fashioned Goofy slapstick. And of course, the under-10 inside you might like it, too.

Despite its flaws, A Goofy Movie is no dog, however. It's painlessly engaging and gorgeously animated, in that meticulous Disney way, although not on the same level of premier offerings like The Lion King.

"A Goofy Movie" looks slapped together with about as much care as a kid takes making mud pies at the beach. The Script is abysmal and the animation just barely adequate.

Although A Goofy Movie resurrects a major character of the Disney short cartoons of the 30s-50s - the gormless canine star, Goofy - viewers expecting a nostalgic recreation of the old-fashioned, small-town world he once lived in are in for a shock.

..."A Goofy Movie" makes a decent baby sitter, but it might have been considerably more. Too often, stale gags and staler songs interrupt an otherwise nice little comedy of generational misunderstanding.

Maybe "A Goofy Movie" is nothing more than an extended animated sitcom episode, ready-made for home video. If so, it's the best kind you'll see anywhere from anyone.

The results are cute but unremarkable, especially compared to such Disney animated spectaculars as "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King." Even so, "A Goofy Movie" proves satisfying in a Saturday-morning-TV way.
