What to Know

Critics Consensus

Deploying sledgehammer theatrics instead of delivering its message with a dose of good faith, God's Not Dead makes for bad drama and an unconvincing argument to the unconverted.

Finn L Apr 21, 2019 From what I have read on the Internet, this movie was made to enforce the belief that Atheism is bad and Christianity is good. And that is not true. See more
Luke W Apr 9, 2019 God's Not Dead (2014) There are MUCH better Christian themed/inspired films out there. This one panders to a certain angst-ridden subset, and only serves to drive an even BIGGER wedge between dedicated Christians and those who would welcome meaningful debate...for those whom an important conversion, or an optimistic acceptance, was possible...but they are driven away, again. For the general public (of all beliefs), this movie irritatingly propagates common preconceived notions, and outdated tactics, that most non-Christians, and even former Catholics, defensively hold onto for obvious reasons, as noted among the reviews. Threatening "hellfire and brimstone" does NOTHING in 2019. Unfortunately, this one-dimensional mess is sadly more DIVISIVE than actually standing as a Christ-like testimony or experience that many more could enjoy. "Preaching to the choir" is NOT the same as engaging the spiritually hungry outside church walls. SKIP this turkey in favor of better films that happen to also be Christian. The following two offer much more realistic stories with portrayals of faith that have actually appealed to both critics AND audiences. A humorous, people-friendly movie is "The Resurrection of Gavin Stone" (2017, with Brett Dalton): https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_resurrection_of_gavin_stone A terrific true-story of redemption is "All Saints" (2017, with John Corbett): https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/all_saints Powerful crossover films usually feel more objective and empathetic, like an approachable teacher with an open-door policy, who listens to students before offering solutions. Inspirational Christian stories should have mass appeal without triggering a defensive position. They should also entertain; a truly good "faith-based" film (of any religion/belief system) should be enjoyed by ANYONE...not just the choir. -April 2019 See more
Harry G Apr 7, 2019 A shameful, disgusting display of clumsily hacked-up straw men pandering to the pathetic sheep possessing the weakest minds bolstering a position which can't even be defended anymore. See more
Theodore R Apr 2, 2019 This film is disgusting. Not only is it a complete cinematic failure (terrible writing, acting, and directing) but it is downright offensive. See more
Luke S Mar 24, 2019 Although a lot of people don't like it, you can see the reality of this movie more and more in our day-to-day life!
Leia W Mar 18, 2019 Has an interesting premise but is completely ruined by its obvious bias and its attempt to demonize anyone who isn't Christian, hell even Christians themselves might this film offensive. See more
