What to Know

Critics Consensus

Subtle to a fault, this perfectly cast ensemble drama is lifted by typically sharp performances from Robert Duvall and Bill Murray.

Get Low is a handmade kind of film. Its ambitions are modest, but fully attained. I rarely use the words ''go see it'', but I hope a lot of people do. Go to Full Review

Aaron Schneider's southern folk tale comes slathered in corn syrup, oozing its way towards a climax that's not so much big reveal as dying whimper. Go to Full Review

It’s moving and heartbreaking, but doesn’t deliver the smacked-upside-the-head-whammy the build-up suggests. After the final bit of information, we realize this movie is more of a “journey” and less than a “destination” type of story. Go to Full Review

A sad, minor mystery lies at the heart of this whimsical, sometimes beautiful, yet underwhelming tale of folksy Americana. Go to Full Review

Harry R Feb 23, 2019 This was a beautifully done film with great performances delivered by some of my favorite actors. Lucas Black did not disappoint. The layers of the story were peeled away slowly until the heart of the tale was revealed. Well done, thoroughly enjoyed this film. See more
Draco L Feb 10, 2019 Get Low is no go. What a formulaic loser. Sappy pseudo Hallmark miss.
Hagrid L Dec 29, 2018 A small and simple story with a big and great impact. Get Low is a resonating drama owing to another phenomenal performance by Robert Duvall and a stellar cast. It combines humor and drama to great effect and although the ending is foreshadowed early on, it still tugs at your heartstrings. See more
Rey M Nov 9, 2018 This film was almost good.
Albus P Dec 11, 2017 The Aaron-Schneider-directed "Get Low" may benefit mightily from the presence of great performances - most notably those from Robert Duvall and Bill Murray - but casting aside, there are some substantive narrative issues at hand here. Yes, there's an endearing nature to the subtlety of the story, but after a short while, I soon found myself growing a tad tired and antsy from how sluggish the pacing became. I enjoyed the central mystery dwelling within the heart of the story too, but at a certain point, the anticipation for the eventual reveal kind of built to a point where nothing would have warranted the wait, no matter what the eventual reveal was going to be. That being said, though, if there's anything in this film that could transmit seamlessly into any filmgoer, it'd be the final act, which is truly a sight to see. But was it too little too late? I'd say no, but with extreme reservation. See more
Kylo G Aug 17, 2017 With subtle direction and a stellar performance from star Robert Duvall, 'Get Low' is a fantastic example of a film that doesn't need anything more than a talented cast and an interesting story to be entertaining. It's only a shame that the big reveal at the end, although moving, still feels somewhat anti-climactic, not to mention dull when compared with the build-up to it. See more
