When a rich hedge-fund manager, James, is convicted of fraud and sentenced to a stretch in San Quentin, the judge gives him one month to get his affairs in order. Knowing that he won't survive more than a few minutes in prison on his own, James turns to Darnell, a Black businessman who's never even had a parking ticket, for help. As Darnell puts James through the wringer, both learn that they were wrong about many things, including each other.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A waste of two fine funnymen, Get Hard settles for tired and offensive gags instead of tapping into its premise's boundary-pushing potential.

Hart and Ferrell make this movie raunchy, silly, hysterical and fun. Go to Full Review

Obvious, lazy, tone-deaf, and mean-spirited - and that, friends, is hard to laugh at. Go to Full Review

For a movie that wants to send a message about privilege and prejudice, it displays a clumsiness and exemplifies a lot of the ignorance and thoughtlessness it wants to rage against. Go to Full Review

The material they're working with is always a two-step behind their talents and, though often worthy of a chuckle, makes some unfortunately vulgar turns along the way. Go to Full Review

Occasionally offensive-but what R-rated comedy in the last ten years isn't?-but worse than that, it takes the easy way out and in the process wastes the opportunity to dig a bit deeper and make the class warfare comedy a bit richer. Go to Full Review

The film exists in an alternate reality, where lots of guns are waved and no one gets shot, and where deadly situations pop up but result in barely a drop of spilt blood. Go to Full Review

Hagrid S Jan 22, 2019 Worth it for the laugh on the plane.
Ron W Jan 3, 2019 I am a little surprised that Will Ferrell would stoop too somthing like this. This failed comedy is a waste of money.
Leia S Dec 26, 2018 Ferrell has fallen from grace and all the choices he has made over the last few films have been quite bad. This film is only funny thanks to the stars, not the filmmaker or writers. The film should have been much better, but like most of the modern comedies, this fails to showcase a reason for existing. This was lacking from the very beginning and went nowhere very quickly. 26/12/2018. See more
Anakin R Oct 7, 2018 The story line sounds familiar but the cast is well used and the comedy may or may not leave you in stitches, it will either, make you laugh or offend you See more
Aug 27, 2018 I first saw get hard and it was so inappropriate. I want to say one thing that there is a lot of jokes, curses and some graphic nudity in it that are very immature. It does get way out of hand. I definitely would not recommend this movie to anybody to watch. Don't even waste your time. It is a very bad movie. It is probably the worst thing that will ferrell did. But some parts were very funny. Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart were both the stars of the film. As I said don't waste your time watching get hard. See more
Finn G Apr 1, 2018 Love the white man trying to be a black man stuff. So dry. Ok film overall
