What to Know

Critics Consensus

Generation Wealth has admirable aims, but never manages to focus long enough to put together the type of cogent argument made by director Lauren Greenfield's earlier works.

What we get is a film that is most fun when observing the cautionary lifestyles of the once-rich and adjacent-to-famous, but most insightful when it pulls outs of the fast lane and Greenfield's eye turns inward on her own life. Go to Full Review

Greenfield's film is all over the place, and is more stream of consciousness than informative or even entertaining. Go to Full Review

Greenfield wants us to know that greed, despite what Gordon Gekko so famously said, is not good. Go to Full Review

Greenfield is aware of the irony. But she's also aware of the pain underneath that statement, encouraging us to lay down our smirks and quips and find it in ourselves to feel it too... Go to Full Review

George R Apr 8, 2019 Interesting journey of money and other obsessions over 25 years...the outcomes are as expected of course...
Rey M Mar 16, 2019 After viewing the trailer I was very interested in seeing this documentary. However, what could have been a sensational and thought provoking documentary ended up being a documentary about the photographer, with her showing us a look at her life with interviews with her parents and children and lots of back story on her. This was randomly mixed in with clips and interviews of others to thinly support the theme that our greed will lead to the downfall of our society. It is two documentaries mixed in together with neither one being well told. The interviews and footage showcasing the chase for greed could have been compelling with the support of a writer that could have streamlined the content into a narrative audiences could follow and enjoy. Harry R Mar 14, 2019 I can't say that I wasn't expecting to see some pretty disgusting displays of greed and consumerism gone mad but I had hoped for a more skilful and insightful narrator than Lauren Greenfield who follows up on the subjects of some of her photojournalist works of the past. Did we get any new understanding? No, not at all. All we got is a parade of figures with whom I felt little or no empathy and less sympathy. See more
George S Mar 13, 2019 a unique look behind the scenes of life. Money is not everything. You find that out sooner or later.
Kylo P Mar 11, 2019 The truth about the american way of life
Draco L Mar 10, 2019 This movie was a bit graphic in blunt ways at times. Although, its extremely revealing character was symbolic in how it exposed the hidden lures of the American Dream. Greed, self-indulgence, & self-centeredness should never be put before Love. Love indeed reigns above all. See more
