What to Know

Critics Consensus

G.B.F. explores high school relationship dynamics and teen stereotypes with a refreshingly humorous touch - and surprisingly subtle smarts.

Director Darren Stein's frequently on-target satire had me laughing enough to keep it interesting. Go to Full Review

The result is mostly swishy, sweet fun, although admittedly it might have benefitted from a bit of tweaking to fluff up bigger, better, and bitchier one-liners. Go to Full Review

Chronic bubble-gum highschool farce in which gay characters are reduced to tokenistic social accessories. Go to Full Review

G.B.F is a breath of fresh air to the tired and usually mundane teen genre. Go to Full Review

On the surface the film resembles a gay reworking of a John Hughes teen flick, except the slang often rings hollow and the script too often falls back on cliché and caricature. Go to Full Review

G.B.F. is an endearing and sweet coming-of-age comedy, as good a teen movie as the classics we know and love. Go to Full Review

Leia P Nov 4, 2018 Good for kids. I got irritated with it, finding the acting bumpy and sloppy. Kids will look through that and listen for the messages. And it's a good message. Guess I've grown up now. See more
Luke R Sep 9, 2018 Never escapes its Indie-ness, but still is refreshing. Doesn't take itself too seriously, thankfully.
Apr 6, 2018 I understand that this movie is satire, but I couldn't get through it... Honestly, it was so cringy. A bunch of small things annoyed me, so I ended up stopping with roughly 30 minutes left. I guess I'll never know how it ends... See more
Finn G May 19, 2017 this movie sucked so much i waned to go back in he closet
Abraham G Mar 4, 2017 Entertained for a while, however, there are too many clichés on the one hand, while others just became extinct. It is a cheap satire about the stereotypes that exist among teenage students in America. The film is insignificant in its whole structure and the plot is too poor and uses these so trampled resources of banal sentimentality that the groups of audience in which the film focuses so much adore. The film is difficult to evaluate because although it is stupid, it can be quite funny and even tender, but please do not say that it is stylish or innovative. 40/100 See more
George M May 11, 2014 For people who likes that type of films, i'm sure they will have a great time. i saw it with a bunch of friends and i thought it was ok. The cast is cool and avoid some of the over the top cliches one could have expected from a film revolving around the LGBTQ topic. Give it a go. See more
