Conservative fans might appreciate its craven faithfulness, but adaptation isn't much fun when it's just approximation, and Fullmetal Alchemist behaves less like cinema than cosplay on a cinema budget. Go to Full Review
Deborah Young The Hollywood Reporter Oct 26, 2017
Characters come and go quickly, leaving a feeling that there is too much compression of the multi-episode story. Go to Full Review

Following [a] spirited set-up, the story never gains much propulsion or emotional weight. Go to Full Review

"Fullmetal Alchemist" is an impressive film to look at (minus the blond wigs), but unfortunately, in terms of narrative, characters, and adapting is a mediocre effort. Go to Full Review

Key aspects of storytelling, character building, and presentation are thrown out the window, and the finished product is a frustrating 135 minutes that feels like Chinese water torture. Go to Full Review

Just because the visuals are nice in Fullmetal Alchemist doesn't mean we can overlook the lame costume design, the strained acting, or the piss poor representation of a beloved anime and manga series. Go to Full Review

Apr 23, 2019 Its awful...IT'S ALL FUCKING AWFUL!!! I don't understand you NETFLIX, why are you fucking up all the race banding in your "adaptations", but its just the tip of the aisberg. All the actors play is awful, they all look so unnatural (except maybe Maes Hughes actor). Effects and costumes looks worse than Sonic fan-film. Anime comedy doesn't work in live action. Rules of alchemy makes no sense in this... It's just awful. Keep killing beloved anime works like FMA and Death Note and you sure gonna attract new fans, NETFLIX. See more
Mar 22, 2019 Absolutely phenomenal movie.
Mar 4, 2019 I got very annoyed how one scene al would have a mechanical arm then the next it was a regular human arm.
Abraham P Dec 6, 2018 The acting is horrible and over the top. It is extremely campy, and will not satisfy hard core fans of the series. This seems more like a loving tribute, in a well-intentioned but so bad it's good rendition. Hughes was the best! Overall, it does not capture the sense of wonder, and they could really have done with a better actor for Ed, campy but in a winking way. Ed's actor just does not have the chops to pull the movie together. Roy was also confusingly portrayed, the actor not able to channel fury that I would expect from Roy. See more
Oct 8, 2018 Better than I expected. Liked the villains, especially the fingering lady ^_^ (Lust).
Luke W Sep 15, 2018 Started watching this film with low expectations and was suprised. As a fan of the anime, thought this adaptation was pretty good. Most anime to live action films have been terrible, but this one was alright. Glad they released this on Netflix and was happy to hear the English dub of this included the dub cast of the anime.
